Her passing is not unexpected. She has been batting multiple sclerosis for decades, and she was 79 years old (maybe). The lack of surprise, however, doesn’t really lighten the burden of the news. She was truly likable, as a performer and as herself.
Every source agrees that she was born on December 11th, but nobody seems to know for sure how old she was. Apparently at some time in her career she went full Mimi Rogers on her birth year. Her year of birth is listed in various sources as 1944 (Wikipedia/IMDb), 1945 (Historical Gazetteer of the United States), 1947 (California voter registration) and 1949 (Screen World). IMDb recently changed her birth year from 1947 to 1944. So maybe she was 79, maybe as young as 74, maybe somewhere in between.
Her only real nudity came when she doffed her duds for Francis Ford Coppola in One from the Heart (1982). She was in her late 30s.
Much earlier in her career, she may have been naked in a 1970 film called The Moonshine War but as you can see from the capture below, that could have been anyone.

Letterman loved her.
I remember a Letterman segment with Teri, where she told a story about somebody singing a song where the important part was “she sits among the cabbages and peas”; the censors were besides themselves and made her change the lyrics to “she sits among the cabbages and leeks”.
Or something like that. It was one of those early Lettermans
One of Letterman’s best guests
Definitely remember the old Letterman show with her taking a shower on air after her interview
She is an awesome actress and “One from the Heart” is a seriously underrated film. The story isn’t that strong but the visuals and music score as well as Coppola’s direction makes it work. It’s a shame it never got its due in its initial release.
She’s also awesome in “Mr. Mom”, “Ghost World”, and “Tootsie”. We will miss you Teri.
Plus it’s her only on-screen nudity, since we’re on a celeb nudity site
She wrote an entertaining autobiography years ago called Speedbumps. She did a funny, dishy interview with the AV Club promoting it. She had an interesting life and career.
Video –
This 6 minute movie starring Teri Garr is dated 1964:
To me she looks older than 15 or 17, but I bow to the expertise of others on that score.
She looks at least 20. She can also been seen dancing on a show for Marvin Gaye along with Toni Basil in a 1964 episode of TAMI where all the dancers are probably adult age. Teri was good friends with Toni Basil who was 20 or 21 in 1964 so Teri is probably the same age as her.
Always liked her and as a kid she was one of my early crushes. If you were to pit 1970s Goldie up against 1970s Teri, Teri would have been the big winner for me.
A small part in Tootsie, but I loved here delivery of this sequence
Sandy : I never said I love you, I don’t care about I love you! I read “The Second Sex”, I read “The Cinderella Complex”, I’m responsible for my own orgasm, I don’t care! I just don’t like to be lied to!
Apparently, those lines were ad-libbed. They certainly aren’t there in the script.
She seemed to be a nice and interesting lady. I too would have liked to see more of her nude.
1950 census confirms 1944 birth year, so she would have been 80 in December. Not a boomer the
