I suppose you might wonder why I spent some time on this nearly-forgotten 1987 film. It’s not an especially good film, and the nudity is not spectacularly good.
Well, here’s the deal. I was watching episode 4 of Furious, and I saw in the credits that it was inspired by Black Widow. There certainly are similarities. Both involve a workaholic female FBI agent named Al hunting down a female serial killer named Catherine who keeps switching identities to prey on older men. That may sound as if the stories are similar, but they really aren’t.
* The Emmy Rossum version of the FBI agent has some severe psychological problems. For example, she finds random hook-ups on the internet and asks the guys to rough her up. The Debra Winger version was just a brainy computer nerd with little social life.
* The Lola Petticrew version of the killer is getting revenge for abuses she suffered when she was sexually trafficked. The original Theresa Russell version was just a scheming mercenary who killed off older rich guys for their money. This seems like a politically correct change to make her actions seem to have been created by abusive men rather than her own greed and murderous impulses.
