This Spartacus spin-off is not a sequel, but an alternate timeline.
In the show Spartacus: Vengeance, Ashur died at the end of season 2, decapitated by Naevia in a fight on Mount Vesuvius. The new series, Spartacus: House of Ashur, features the same character portrayed by the same actor, somehow alive and in control of the House of Batiatus. (Perhaps this is the Ashur version of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.)
I was hooked on the previous Spartacus efforts, so I’ll be all-in on this one, at least at the beginning. Some scenes in the teaser look promising.
I noticed in the comments that some guys think the show is pushing a woke agenda by positing that an average-sized black lesbian could compete equally with gigantic muscular men. I don’t care about that. They had me at Spartacus, and they’ll really have me if there are naked lesbians – or naked straight women. (Such shenanigans are implied in the teaser around 1:26, and by the history of the franchise.)
Steven Deknight has become a TDS loon since the original series. I hope it doesn’t translate to his work.
What does TDS mean?
Trump Derangement Syndrome. This is what the nutbags scream when anyone correctly criticizes Trump and there’s no legitimate defense of Trump’s actions. It’s just like Trump always screams “fake news” when he gets caught in one of his various transgressions.
It’s basically like shouting “so’s your old man” on the playground because you have no other comeback.
Ironically, the term serves to remind us that the disease is always named after the first famous victim. As Lou Gehrig is to ALS, Trump is to derangement.
Exactly! It’s completely the mind of a rational creative to use their Spartacus IP to create a series focused on a black, lesbian Gladiator. No hidden agendas, just pure entertainment.
Agreed, in a consumerist society it is very rational for producers to chase current trends in order to profit off of them. “Go woke go broke” has been proven wrong time and time again. Your own personal feelings on the matter are irrelevant. If these projects weren’t profitable then they wouldn’t keep getting made.

Actually a great example, since the very term originated from media which tried to use it against him – before being adopted by him against the media, rightfully so. Similarly, you’re trying to reverse this.
Alas, this can only work with those unaware of liberal psychopathy – and for example, the fact that numerous times, people have called for murder of Trump on your very site. If Trump was as half deranged and bloodthirsty as the lot of you, you’d be facing an FBI visit.

Well, Donald Trump claims that he coined the term! In an interview with Fox’s Lou Dobbs (and many other times), President Trump claimed that he coined the term “fake news.”
The modern term was probably coined by Norm MacDonald, and was later co-opted by Jon Stewart. Both used it to refer to themselves (or rather their own schticks). They were referring to satirical news, which is not the current sense.
The most recent meaning started about 2014-2015 when that Russian troll farm, the Internet Research Agency in St. Petersburg, started to create spoof sites of legitimate news organizations. People would think they were clicking on the Seattle Times or Bild, or another legit news organization, but it would actually be a clone, literally distributing “fake news” on a fake news site, and it was identified by that specific term by BuzzFeed, among others.
The next group to get involved was in Macedonia, where local entrepreneurs simply ripped off various right-wing news sites in the USA and claimed their stories as their own, making serious money from Facebook with headlines like:
“Pope Francis Shocks World, Endorses Donald Trump for President”
“FBI Agent Suspected in Hillary Email Leaks Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide”.
The operation was essentially apolitical. They just chose right-wing-oriented posts because that’s where the money was.
“Teenagers in our city don’t care how Americans vote. They are only satisfied that they make money and can buy expensive clothes and drinks!”
In addition to fake political news, they also made money with fake celebrity reports.
Since the original flourishing in 2014-2016, the definition and the nature of fake news has become muddied.
The dictionary says, “False news stories, often of a sensational nature, created to be widely shared online for the purpose of generating ad revenue via web traffic or discrediting a public figure, political movement, company, etc.”
But …
That definition does not really cover the way Trump uses the phrase. When he uses the term “fake news,” you can be nearly 100% certain that it is actually accurate, genuine news that he doesn’t like.
It must feel pretty weird to get conned by the same guy over and over again and still need to justify his actions. What a bunch of dupes.

I couldn’t agree more . There’s no one I hate more than “bankers” and consultants,. Private equity, vc, venture debt. etc. It’s a manufactured game designed to make money. All of the “purpose, meaning, and mission” are just relegated to a variable in their financial models.
Actually TDS is a person who has been completely blinded by hatred of Trump that they no are no longer coherent, logical, or rational. They have become unhinged. The very mention of Trumps name causes them to go into a blind range. That is what happened to Deknight, someone I once deeply admired.
I personally dislike Trump. Why are you putting me in a position to defend him? That is exactly what TDS is. Unable to separate the man from the policy. I could not care less if our president is a dancing baboon so long as they secure the borders, enforce the laws, keep our cities safe, and protect our interests overseas. As liberals like to say, “he’s not a king”. He’s a public servant protecting my interests.

Policies and lies are why I dislike him. His policies falter under the simplest logic, because of his lack of logic and perpetual lies to make whatever he believes try to fit into outside reality.
There’s been nothing safer about him in office, he’s added to the deficit, the only thing that’s changed is the messaging where you get your news. If FOX News or whatever conservative propaganda say the world is safe, then you feel safer. If they don’t, then you don’t. Why not just admit its all based on the feels of your echo chamber and not objective reality? You feel how they tell you to feel, he’s in office so where you consume your reality dictates that.
ICE employees have even been interviewed stating since Trump came into office, they’re less focused on violent criminal investigations because they’re out to meet quotas. So all this money isn’t going to make the world safer from violent or property crime, its being used to round up gardeners or laborers trying to survive. He’s burned a lot of taxpayer money on a lie, if he were truly making the world safer it would have went to more officers and detectives, instead of rounding up random people living their life because of this human created legal status.
Besides, aren’t you from NYC – what policy did Trump make to prevent the guy from going into an office and shooting it up because he was fucking nuts and could get a gun easily? Guess you would have felt quite differently if it were your office that guy came into. Or maybe not, guess you would have ended up checking the conservative Pravda for how to feel on that one too.
Frankly, even using the term TDS is just proof that you “got nothin'” as a real defense. As I mentioned previously, it’s just what nutbags say when they can’t defend Trump’s actions any other way. Of course I understand why that is necessary. It’s almost impossible to defend many of the hateful, deceitful and stupid things he says and does every day, so “TDS” is the only defense. I get that. I mean what can you say when he claims his father was born in Germany, or that he doesn’t do drawings? What can you say when the C+ student says that somebody with a Harvard doctorate magna cum laude was a poor student? When people ridicule him for being dumb or being a liar, there’s no other response other than to claim “TDS,” because the accusations are true.
Further, the TDS premise contains the logical flaw of “begging the question,” basically assuming a priori that there’s something irrational, incoherent, unhinged or illogical about hating somebody intensely. Is intense hatred of someone automatically irrational? No. Intense hatred can be just a recognition that the person being hated is truly deserving of hatred and contempt.

Scoop, maybe what you are saying is that not everyone accused of TDS has TDS, but hate is a strong word and losing one’s temper in any normal conversation is “unhinged” in my opinion. I don’t do it. It shows a lack of control. I was with some liberal friends the other day (yes I have them), someone mentioned Donald Trumps name, and another went on a rant on how Trump is going to send the military into Canada to turn it into the 51st state. This is an individual I would have considered normal, intelligent, and thoughtful a year ago. That’s TDS. The rest of us had a good laugh though.

It’s not surprising that a former (failed) casino owner would be all for this reality, since he’s done a grand total of jack shit to provide anything to the world for his wealth. Which is why he fires or persecutes the truth, such as his failed policies already crashing the economy in its early stages.

Of shows with abundant sex and action, the Spartacus series is easily one of the greatest of all-time. Entertaining characters and plot with some legitimately graphic (for TV) scenes. I’m hopeful they stay close to the original in tone and explicitness.

The problem with the original show and shows like it are that they are only good for the naked women every now and then, the shows are completely unwatchable. I don’t know how anyone could spend an hour watching them without serious issues of boredom. Nowadays there are beautiful naked women everywhere without having to pay anything extra so no reason to buy something to waste time watching crap. And most of us will be able to see the scenes of the women for free as they will spread fast if they are any good. If they don’t try to make this good or have it be mostly fantastic lesbian scenes to alleviate boredom, I really don’t see the point. The market today is extremely different from when the original was made. As this appears to still be on Starz, I’m really not expecting anything worthwhile.
The series came out in the 2010’s, what makes “nowadays” any different than the early 2010’s in ability to see naked women for free on the internet? It was just as easy and openly available back then.
This seems like a different story in alternate reality where Asher is the head of the house where he fought in, I heard this was going to be out this fall’ but now it saids it’s coming out this winter’ I hate to wait that long for it as many of us will. Damn those for changing the release date, I was really looking forward to seeing Ivana Baquero performance in here real soon, I hope to see some screen shots of her in it before it’s release’ but I can wait for as long as I can for this series’ it better be good like the other seasons was before it. I guess I also look forward to seeing Claudia Black’a performance in it as well, as I remembered her back in the days when was apart of sci-fi series “Farscape’ who knows’ but I can’t wait to see it in due time!
