Others that could have made the list:
Several scenes from Mad Max: Fury Road
The tree-top fight in Crouching Tiger
The shoot-out scene in Heat
The battle scene at the end of Kill Bill, Part 1
The Omaha Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan
The chariot race in Ben-Hur

The alley fight in THEY LIVE
Roddy’s movie career was brief, but contained so many great moments, including that one. No special effects. No cast of thousands. Just two blue-collar actors sweatin’ it out.
I don’t think Roddy get’s enough credit. I would rather watch him than most of the current action stars.
Of course, he was entertaining in fight scenes, but he also delivered pretty good acting performances, and not just in the smart-ass scenes. I think he was, as you suggested, underrated. He was definitely one of the top five actors who used to be a wrestler – not as good an actor as Dave Bautista, and not as charismatic as The Rock, but surprisingly good.
there was something really likeable about him. He seemed like someone that you would want to have a beer with.
No love for the fencing scene in the Princess Bride? Inconceivable.
One of the best written movies ever. All the scenes where great. Very enjoyable.
Absolutely one of my favorite films, and one of the very few I recommend to everyone, no matter their age or gender, and no matter what kind of movies they like or dislike.
yep same here.
Definitely in my top ten. I used to say to my friends to have movie night with a new date and watch Princess Bride. If they didn’t love it don’t go date them. They have something seriously wrong with them. I would have liked to do than when interview people to work for me too.
Not really a fight scene movie but another one high on the list was A Knight’s Tale. Not on par with Princess Bride but a very enjoyable and one I think that almost anyone can watch and enjoy.
yeah didn’t seem to go for the epic choreographed battle scenes in dozen of medieval period movies …Ben Hur, Braveheart, Gladiator
Your list is better than everything on there, other than maybe Helm’s Deep (I mostly don’t like Jackson’s LotR, but that is great). How the hell is there not ONE John Woo gunfight on there?
Also missing from a film no one remembers– the Guggenheim Shootout from the International.
Good tip. I have to find and watch The International. I didn’t have any memory of that scene, which means I probably haven’t seen the film. Thanks for posting it.
Speaking of Clive Owen, if we had a list for the most exciting-but-silly action sequence, that scene in Shoot ’em Up would be a contender.
The rest of the film is an OK thriller. It isn’t bad, but is nothing special, either. That scene is by far the best part of the film, but so good it makes the rest worth it.
Yeah that list is lame. International is not a GREAT movie, but that shootout was a certified banger.
I was thinking the big ninja scene from “Bohachi Bushido: Code of the Forgotten Eight”
Nothing from Jackie Chan?!?
I had the same thought.
Bruce Lee would like a word…
No love for westerns. The final shoot out in the original Magnificent seven.
Speaking of which, where’s the love for Seven Samrai?
Yeah that has interesting action…not “actiony” action, but more realistic, desperate fighting. Very realistic. Love the Japanese sword movies, especially the Zatoichi series.
What hurts Mad Max: Fury Road in a list like this is that it’s essentially one big chase sequence so it’s hard to break down into scenes. But the tanker chase finale from Mad Max 2 should definitely be in here. It’s hard to believe that no stunt people died during filming.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon had several. The treetop fight mentioned earlier, but also Zhang Ziyi vs. Michelle Yeoh (using every weapon) and Zhang Ziyi vs. everyone at the teahouse.
The church battle in “Kingsman” is pretty fun.
Happy to see no Michael Bay on this list.
The list linked is kinda lame, Scoop’s list is miles better. I’d add the end fight from Drunken Master 2, and the end of Police Story…or hell maybe even the car chase in the beginning of that one. Swordfight in Princess Bride. The house shootout of The Killer, or the ending. Maybe the footchase in Point Break. Truck Chase in Raiders. I love the big one on one in Troy. There’s a foreign movie, I think it’s Polish called The Deluge that has an awesome, and pretty technically accurate, saber fight. The 50s movie Prisoner of Zendas also has a great saber fight.
Not a fan of the treetop part of Crouching Tiger…it’s slow-mo whooshing around on trees. The first fight and the dojo were real action scenes.
Yup…that list is lame
Like Bruce Lee, Peckinpah would also like a word ie The Wild Bunch, Straw Dogs etc etc
The list could be really long.
Just by adding the entirety of the Korean film Man From Nowhere.
Plot: a former killer trying to move on with his life peacefully gets crossed by gangsters and returns to his previous ways to exact revenge and save a little girl. Other than the kid, does that sound like John Wick? Because it’s a LOT like John Wick, down to the suit he wears. Those dudes owe the Koreans some cash.
Not a movie but the show Warrior has some awesome fight scenes.
As did some episodes of the Spartacus shows. (Although too much CGI for my taste.)
It’s very much a list of someone who only started watching movies in the 90s. I might also add the car chases in BULLITT and FRENCH CONNECTION, the Hood/sherrif sword fight in the Flynn version of ROBIN HOOD, and dozens more. SORCEROR, anyone? The “settling all family business” sequence in GODFATHER II, or the final fight in TAXI DRIVER are also great, because horrifying. And I am not prejudiced against more recent movies than even the 70s. I think that the climactic scenes in ALIEN and ALIENS are both worthy of praise.
