The movie was troubled before it even hit cameras. They didn’t know what they were gonna do with the dwarves. They REALLY wanted Zegler as Snow despite the fact that “Snow White” isn’t an excellent description for a Latina, she’d never headlined a big film before, and let’s face it: she’s not that pretty.
Snow is supposed to be the fairest in the land…so gorgeous her step mom is jealous.
Then they cast Gal Gadot, possibly the most beautiful woman alive, as the queen.
Nobody in their right mind would ever buy the weird and frumpy Zegler was just oh so much hotter than fucking Wonder Woman.
So we get uncanny valley dwarves, a scrawny and odd looking Snow, and Diana Goddamn Prince jealous of her.
Nobody showed up. Not a shock.
To make things weirder, they didn’t try to make Zegler look good. She can be exotically beautiful if made up right, but it seems that they tried to make her as plain as possible, far from “the fairest of them all.” The whole thing makes no sense to me.
I think that may have been the point. She wasn’t fair in being beautiful, she was a fair person capable of being a leader. A communist’s wet dream. The evil queen is purposefully more beautiful to help make this point. The evil queen may have more physical beauty, but Snow White dreams of being a great leader that treats everyone equally and that’s all that matters. You know, all the stuff no one cares about.
