In this chilling and lengthy prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, we see Jason’s mother as a dark woman, consumed by grief but tactical and highly calculating. She is not some dumb camp cook disgusted at the teens’ promiscuity, but she is also a doting, loving mother, and despite all her precautions, her intense grief gets the best of her. It’s not until she fully gives in to the dark side and embraces her murderous urges that we see her hiding in plain sight, using those around her to leverage her safety, and continuing the path of her bloodbath without distractions.

Geez. Haven’t seen one of these in a while, where the movie or show tries to sympathize with the villain and his/her motivations. I think it all started with Wicked on Broadway, and I thought it kinda ended with the movie. Between that there was stuff like Maleficent, Cruella, The Joker, that other one about the Spiderman foe, and the MCU started trying to make their villains “gray” like whoever the antagonist was for The Marvels; they always had to have an explanation for why the villain was the way they were, as if to say that nobody is truly evil. Did they do an origin story for Freddy Krueger yet? Or a reimagining of Hitler?
Lovely ass on her.
