Cold war espionage thriller; Peacock original series

Two secretaries at the American embassy in 1970s Moscow become CIA operatives after their husbands are killed, uncovering a Cold War conspiracy behind the tragedy.

The Khaleesi’s Russian was reasonably convincing, although she has a Dothraki accent.

Joking aside, Emilia does not speak Russian, but she learned her lines phonetically, using a dialogue coach. The role required her to learn to say the words with a specific Muscovite accent. I don’t think she could fool a native speaker, but everything was completely clear and understandable.

Marie is a contemporary woman who survived the blows of her companion. A year later, her best friend Mia offers her a night out. She will then find herself face to face with the unhealthy spirit of men.

This is a bittersweet comedy from France.

Mathias takes his best friend Philippe on a bicycle road trip from Paris to Istanbul. Together they will retrace the journey that Youri, his son, had undertaken before tragically disappearing. An epic that they will experience with tenderness, humor and emotion.

This interesting project is something very close to, but not quite, a documentary. The events occurred as pictured, but the men did not bring along a cameraman on their bicycle journey. Later, playing themselves, they recreated the highlights of their journey for the purpose of this film. Some other characters (but not all) were played by actors, like Adriane Gradziel, who is pictured below.

Marie Gillain’s nipple appears, but we view it through a steamed-up bathroom mirror.

Marie is 50 years old. In her younger days, she did many nude scenes, dating back to L’Appât in 1995, making 2025 her 30th anniversary of adult nude scenes. She did full-frontal nudity in Valentin Valentin (2014), The Last Harem (1999)

One commenter noted that she also did one nude scene as a child.

French fantasy, AKA “What the Mermaid Likes”

As she struggles to cope with the loss of her older sister, Essie finds herself alone with her father. In the lake that borders the family home, she discovers a mysterious mermaid, which feeds only on gasoline.

For some reason, this mediocre, little-seen film has already been transferred to 4K. It came our great. Some older projects look like they have been enlarged too much when transferred from film to 4K digital, but this film’s image quality survived the transfer beautifully.
