Everything eventually followed this year’s predictable script, but not without a couple of decent sub-plots.
BYU was rumored to have one of the nation’s elite offenses. They proved it by scoring 88 against a #2 seed.
But maybe next year they could spend a little more time on “D.” They allowed Alabama to score 113 in 40 minutes.
Alabama’s offense is unusual. They took 51 shots from beyond the arc and only 15 from inside. I guess that makes a lot of sense, given that they made 25 of those 51 bombs. If you can drain ’em like that from downtown, why mess around with small ball? Those 25 threes shattered the previous tournament record (21), which had held for 35 years.
Arkansas, the last remaining team seeded worse than #6, almost pulled off another upset. They took Texas Tech to OT before losing by two when Tech scored the deciding layup with seven seconds on the clock.
Two #1 seeds, Florida and Duke, played today. They moved on the the elite eight.
