The Spree is a surprisingly decent double-cross thriller although the first half is vastly better than the double-crossing second half. Jennifer Beals plays Xinia, a cat burglar/safe cracker who comes across Bram (Powers Boothe) and instantly begin a fling but she finds out he’s a cop but it’s not what you think. He wants to do his own robbing so they go on a heist together but it goes wrong when Bram’s partner susses them out and then starts to put the hard word on Xinia. Then things get complicated fast and the bodies start to pile up. The first half which is mostly the fling is pretty good, Beals and Boothe have some good chemistry and it looks like it’s going to be an erotic thriller but that’s not the direction the movie goes sadly. Still pretty good but relies far more on clichés before an explosive ending.
