Jeanne Balibar, daughter of a physicist and a philosopher, and therefore presumably brilliant, somehow ended up in show business, which requires almost no intelligence. In fact, brainpower may be a liability.
But we are much the richer for her career choice.

Not my “career.” I had plenty of those before retiring, and one of those was a failed, youthful attempt to be a stage actor, so if I were sneering, I’d also be sneering at myself.
The point is that I wasn’t sneering at all. It’s just that film acting is an unusual choice for someone with (presumed) high intelligence. That doesn’t mean she made a mistake. That’s what she loved, I guess, and I suppose it was much more lucrative than philosophy.
James Woods was on a talk show once, being quizzed about his academic record. As I recall, he got a perfect or near-perfect score on the SAT, and got a scholarship to MIT. He didn’t bring the subject up, and was kind of annoyed at the host for doing so. After dodging some persistent questions, he finally said “I guess I used to be sort of smart, but then I went into acting, where there’s no call for it.”
Well, intelligence isn’t necessarily passed down to children. So although her parents may have been a physicist and a philosopher, that doesn’t mean she got any of the smarts.
Although then again, there was the case of Asia Carrera, who supposedly was a member of Mensa with an IQ of 156. So smart that she realized she’d make more money doing porn than anything else. Later in life she enrolled in Utah Tech, and was later joined by her eleven year old daughter.
Anyway…her spreading bootyhole in that one is crazy

Hey, here’s an idea: what if she’s both fucking smart AND fucking charismatic in “show business”?
Sheesh, way to undermine a working choice, but, sure, I guess one who’s working as a dishwasher is also considered “intellectually inferior” to, say, a surgeon, therefore said dishwasher deserves the low wage 😛
In any case, Balibar is DAMN HOT, gorgeous asshole as well.
You miss the point. We are always curious when somebody with the skills and intelligence to be a brain surgeon chooses to be a dishwasher. It’s only natural to wonder why.
