Man, I hope they bring back the comic book. That shite was awesome!

OTOH, no more fluorinated drinking water. WORTH IT!
The world has been here before
Trofim Lysenko was a crackpot “scientist” who was lionized by Stalin because his theories conformed to Marxist dogma. Under his leadership, genetics was officially declared “a bourgeois pseudoscience.” He declared that the very concept of a gene was a “bourgeois invention.”
In 1940, Stalin made him the director of the Institute of Genetics of the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
Yes, you read that right. Stalin promoted a man who did not believe in genes to be the head of the Institute of Genetics. Thousands of government scientists were fired (or worse) for attempting to state or pursue the truth.
As you might guess, this had a calamitous impact on Soviet science. Russian genetics remained behind the rest of the world for decades. Perhaps more important, it had an equally calamitous impact on Russian society. Because genetics and cell biology are so important to agriculture, Lysenko’s crackpot, pseudo-scientific alternatives to those sciences caused famine after famine as crop yields declined during a critical era of military and economic crisis.

In the future, historians will be able to save a lot of time by cutting/pasting the story of Stalin and Lysenko into the section on Trump and Kennedy.
Example:
“Yes, you read that right. Trump promoted a man who did not believe in vaccines to be in charge of the scientific institute that studies and promotes disease control. Thousands of government employees were fired for attempting to state or pursue the truth.”
“As you might guess, this had a calamitous impact on American virology. The United States fell behind the rest of the world for decades. Perhaps more important, it had an equally calamitous impact on American society. Because vaccinations are so important to disease control, Kennedy’s crackpot, pseudo-scientific theories caused epidemic after epidemic when diseases like polio and measles, once nearly eradicated from America, began to spread among the unvaccinated.”
Look, there are good viruses on both sides. On both sides.
At least he’s not pretending these are the *best* people. Just looking for a silver lining where I can.
Similarly, a Sec. of Education who thinks it should be shut down. Reagan appointing Watt to the Interior paved the way for this horseshit.
Sometimes there is no silver lining .
Precisely. Idiots on repeat.
Or idiots on parade.
