I don’t agree on Vance. He’s making a fool of himself to please Trump, but he’s said to be very sharp in reality.
He definitely has backing from the right wing elites: he’s a far right Catholic who makes Opus Dei look moderate, he’s an Ivy League educated lawyer and he’s a venture capitalist in the high tech sector. So, he has the key connections like he’s from central casting.
As far as I’m concerned, the thing to look at is feudalist societies, the elite religion, the inherited wealth like the Lords and the other wealthy capitalists of that day. This is no different, these American feudalists have never accepted democracy.
As for the military, I don’t think they have any role to act to restore a functioning democracy as long as the facades of democracy remain in place, which is actually the common practice in many dictatorships. And, I don’t think the military would act as long as the Supreme Court backs up the Republicans, and the fascist Federalist Society is part of the neoFeudalist elite.
One more point: the original Powell Memo never actually called for a dictatorship, he just called for corporations to engage in lobbying to take control of all levers of the government to make the government work for the corporations.
However, these things have a way of taking on a life of their own, and it’s hard to see the high tech elites not simply wanting a dictatorship.
The only area where Vance runs into trouble is that, from a person I’ve spoken to about him, Vance sees himself as something of a Robert Taft. While Taft may be best known as a conservative on foreign policy who narrowly lost the Republican Presidential nomination to Eisenhower, Taft was primarily an ardent economic nationalist especially when it came to protecting manufacturing.
The status quo economic elite still favors free trade as do the foreign policy establishment and the high up military officers, so this is an area where a King Trump or Vance would have a division in the neoFeudalist ranks.
I think Adam is right about the Republicans not planning on giving up power. There will probably be more elections, but none the the Republicans care about will be free and fair.

There is no evidence, statistical or otherwise, that fraud affected the 2020 election results.
Harris got six million fewer votes than Biden received, half from voter turn-out (predominantly in California), half from party switchover.
The three million that was because of lower turnout was not in the swing states, but in California, where Biden was sure to win in 2020, so fraud would have served no purpose. Harris lost two million from 2020 Biden’s total, and that was really a proportionate loss of nearly three million because California had more eligible voters in 2024. I assume that was California voters thinking (correctly) that their Presidential votes were meaningless. It was not people who switched, because Trump got approximately the same number of California votes in both elections, and in fact, his percentage of eligible California voters actually went down a bit in 2024, although he got a higher percentage of ballots cast.
The other three million votes that Harris lost from Biden’s total were essentially accounted for by a massive shift in the Latino vote from Biden to Trump. In 2020, 13.9 million Latinos voted against Trump. In 2024, the number went all the way down to ten million. About half of that change was a result of voters staying home, and the other half was voters actually switching from Biden to Trump.
It’s worth remembering that Kamala Harris got more votes in 2024 than Trump had in 2020.

As to your other point. Well, he did leave office once before, but not voluntarily. When his phony law suits, fake claims about election fraud, fake electors, Jan 6 riot failed, his only choices were to leave or to escorted off the premises. That’s not the same as leaving voluntarily. It’s reasonable to think that he would do the same if he lost again, and be better prepared this time.
Fortunately for his opponents and haters, I see little chance that he will live to the end of his term. Plain fact of the matter is that there are not many 80-year-old fat guys, and he is not changing his lifestyle, as you saw in his recent McDonald’s order. I watched that golf video he did with Bryson DeChambeau. While he played well, he was out of breath and struggled to speak after nearly every full swing. And that was riding in a cart. U.S. immigration records list Trump’s grandpa as “Friedr. Trumpf,” not Drumpf, but that was their error. His birth certificate back in Germany specified “Trump.”
I have been able to find no ancestor who ever spelled the name Drumpf. The use of the Trump spelling goes back hundreds of years. There is a very distant ancestor who spelled it Johann Philipp Drumpft (with a t at the end), but he called his son, born 1699, Johann Sebastian Trump, so the Trump spelling goes back at least that far.
So then, the cheesy knockoff of the French original he proposes to desecrate the Mall with should be called the Arc de Trumpf.

I don’t think you will find many people who will disagree with kicking out illegal gang bangers. The previous administrations, including Trump 45, definitely bungled border security, so I’m glad to see that remedied. I don’t even have a problem with him deporting peaceful illegal (or “undocumented”) immigrants.
But it has to be done within the law, the deportees need to be accorded due process, and we have to make sure that we aren’t deporting American citizens and legal residents.

Honestly I remember a lot of people taking umbrage but no one actually mocking or endorsing his assassination. Of course, pointing out that Charlie was a piece of shit while he lived is a different can of worms. You could say ‘too soon’ or ‘respect the freshly dead’ and you’d sort of have a point. But that same lack of respect was a hallmark of Kirk’s discourse.
He advocated having no empathy. I will honor the man and his legacy by doing just that (in his case).
