Some people called her the first supermodel. Her first major modeling job was with Versace when she was just 18. She was the favorite model of many top fashion photographers, including Arthur Elgort, Helmut Newton and Francesco Scavullo.
“Modeling,” she once said, “is a short gig.” That was certainly true in her case. Her career was a short one (5 years), as was her life (26 years). She became addicted to heroin and eventually died of AIDS-related complications. The virus was presumed to have been contracted from a contaminated needle.
Most of these images were photographed by Chris von Wangenheim in the late 1970s. The other woman in the “fence” pictorial is Sandy Linter, who was not a model, but was very close to Carangi, and was persuaded to join the shoot.
Angelina Jolie portrayed Gia in a 1998 biopic, within which she re-created the famous fence scene with Elizabeth Mitchell. They had some love scenes as well.
I believe that was the only nudity of Mitchell’s career.

Angelina’s nude scenes in that biopic were certainly some of the most famous nude scenes of the early internet age. Now, I rarely see the movie Gia mentioned much at all.
Was there ever a full frontal of Gia? There was no full frontal in the movie.
I don’t know of any.
One of those von Wangenheim photos came sorta-kinda close. (OK, not really.)
If you want to study the subject. This would be a good place to start.
There is this one where you see her bush. I am not if it counts as full frontal since she is technically wearing a dress.
Women back then kept their bush. Today women get laser hair removal, most of them lol
I think that actual permanent removal is not all that common. Shaving is though – unfortunately, in at least some parts of the world. Thankfully, it is not ubiquitous.
Most young girls today have permanent hair removal
Do you have stats on that?
Yeah. It’s perhaps more common in model/adult-entertainment performer fields, and thus the people whose bushes we see, but outside of those industries, it’s probably nowhere near as common. Your average twenty-something working retail doesn’t have extra income for permanent laser removal.
From my perspective, I question why would a woman would do it even if she has the income. So much nicer just natural and full – visually and otherwise. It feels especially nice against the face. 😁 (I smile, but I am totally serious about that.). Luckily, my wife agrees with me about this.
“Do you have stats on that?”
No, but I would like to do the research.
I’m happy to report that you’re quite wrong, at least according to [this poll from about a year ago with a sample size of 14,000. 82% remove at least some but only 15% remove all – most common is “bikini-shaped” with 40%.
Thanks for that comment and for linking the interesting article.
Well, I have personal experience… The young girls I’ve dated, slept with and some others I’ve talked to about it too lol
My girlfriend is shaved. It must be the generation gap, probably… As we said
Posting dead AIDS chicks.
