The series has already been renewed for a second season, but I don’t know whether they have a dramatic fulcrum that justifies one. The first season was a nice, tidy, self-contained story with a full resolution.
This situation reminds me of the first season of Californication, which was perfect, therefore earning more seasons. But the writers basically had to create a new series from scratch, because that season was a nice, tidy, self-contained story with a full resolution. Oh, the rest of the series was fine, but it was never the same.
There are lots of series where I can’t wait to see that they do with what they’ve created: House of Ashur and Pluribus come to mind. But in this case, I feel the characters are solid, and the cast is super, but the story is finished, so yeah, I’ll give the second season a try, but I would not have been disappointed if the series had been canceled.
Here’s my best guess at what the image looks like without the funky strip club lighting:

If it involves more naked Elle Fanning, I say let it ride.
I agree with you assessment: Great cast and believable character arcs. I don’t know how they would get them all back together. The only real surprise was I thought the Greg Kinnear character would be the savior; instead he turned out to be a dick. I loved Paul McCrane as the judge at the end. He made believable assessments of everyone and made a life changing decision in 5 minutes. I had to look him up… McCrane was the closeted gay red headed kid in the movie Fame
too much money and prestige on the table to just let it be.
Yup, same as Californication. In both cases, the shows were good enough and popular enough to earn additional seasons. But the additional seasons seem less like continuations and more like sequels. In contrast, shows like Severance and Pluribus (and, I hope, House of Ashur) use additional seasons as continuations.
It’s very wise not to want a second season of a series that shows female nudity, which is so rare these days, and that of a top actress.
Lol
After a good start in the first episode, there was basically no nudity, except for prosthetics and quick flashes seen in stills. That said, I enjoyed the series enough that I didn’t care.
