The Southern Chronicles, directed by Ignas Miškinis, arrives as a Lithuanian coming-of-age dramedy with wide popular approval and several Silver Crane awards to show for it. The story unfolds in Šiauliai in the early 1990s, a moment of national reinvention after the Soviet withdrawal. Time matters here. The private timetable of adolescence intersects with the public timetable of statehood, and the film keeps both clocks in view.
According to IMDb:
A lot of the 1990s footage is authentic, with the actors superimposed onto it.
This nude scene in this film is one that “coulda been a contenda” without the damned color filter, which was so intense that I couldn’t correct it without introducing unwanted artifacts and distortions. I have no idea why directors think that it would be a good idea to add this artificial crap. What annoys me even more than the actual filters is the fact that I have to agree with Lars von Trier on this issue, which probably means I’m wrong, and possibly mentally ill.
I can give you the general idea.
The scene looks like this:
It probably looked something like this to the naked eye: (Don’t click on these. They are the size of postage stamps, meant for illustration only.)
Anyway, here’s the video, in all of its orange glory.

All this artsy fartsy A24 instafilter shit, Hollywood movies used to have LIGHTS
