My girlfriend has been living in Amsterdam and then Haarlem for the last 20 years and I’ve spent a lot of time there during summers. I often wear a wonderfully lightweight and instantly washable mesh Dutch team shirt with “Cruyff 14” on the back, Johan Cruyff played in DC in the 70s (he had to come to America to make quick money since he had lost practically everything investing in pig farms) and is in my inner circle all-time favorite athletes. I’ve had three different occasions when some local found fit to inform this untutored American that the man’s name was actually Cruijff.
