A short Spanish film about art history. It speculates on the relationship between the great artists and their muses, whose faces we recall because we have seen them on the walls of museums, but whose names and lives are almost completely forgotten.
Great artists of the past like Baudelaire, Manet and Picasso are portrayed in a contemporary context, challenging their prejudices, highlighting the abuse of power they exercised over their muses, and inviting a reexamination of power dynamics within the art world. History is reinterpreted far from the vision taught in schools, to break down foolish taboos and narrative caricatures about art, and to give names and surnames to the exploited images.
The title, La Revolución De Las Musas (Revolt of the Muses), is a reference to Ortega y Gasset’s famous work, La rebelión de las masas (Revolt of the Masses).
