Who?
That’s the #16-seeded team that took on #1 Houston Thursday on the first full day of March Madness. It wasn’t pretty. Edwardsville scored only 16 points in the second half – against the Houston reserves!
None of the #1-#4 seeds lost, so there were no shocks, but there were two fairly big upsets to ruin your brackets:
#5 Clemson suffered the major embarrassment of the day against #12 McNeese by scoring only 13 points in the first half, eventually falling behind by 24 points. They went 1-for-15 on three-pointers in that half, and just missed tying the all-time tournament record for the fewest points scored in a half since the inception of the shot clock. Clemson made a furious last-minute comeback, but they fell just short, 69-67. McNeese just played a great game. They won the rebounding battle 43-36; they had fewer turnovers; and they blocked six of Clemson’s shots.
#11 Drake took out #6 Missouri by 10 points. I believe Drake’s next game will be against Lamar State.
