Saadet Isil Aksoy: rear nudity in Shahmaran (s2e2)

Shahmaran is a Turkish series from Netflix. The above is the only exposed flesh. It might not seem like much nudity to you, but to an Islamic country this is like Sirens meets Dancing at the Blue Iguana.

The pitch:

Sahsu is determined to confront her grandfather, who left her mother years ago in Adana, where she went as a lecturer. On this journey, she finds herself in the middle of an unusual and mysterious community called Mar, descended from Shahmaran. Believing in the legend of Shahmaran, one of the greatest symbols of love and wisdom, the Mar race awaits the completion of the historical prophecy with the arrival of Sahsu.

In an amazing coincidence, the same thing happened to me when I went to confront my own grandfather in the Upper Michigan Peninsula. The primitive and mysterious people called Yoopers thought I was their Sahsu. That meant that I had to be sacrificed to their volcano god, which proved problematic when they realized they had no volcanoes.

You’d think they would have worked that out in advance.

Fortunately, the volcano god was easily pacified with a plate full of Yooper Pasties.

Most gods are inflexible, so I appreciated that. I like a god who will work with a you a bit.

I vote “hard pass” on the series, but offer a tip o’ the fez to Saadat for her performance as the evil snake lady. I assume this is a posthumous honor, since she has undoubtedly been stoned to death for showing her ass-crack to infidels.
