No argument from me. I’ve been saying that for decades. I’ve based my life on The Gospel according to Dalton. The New York Times has finally come over from the Dark Side to the Double Deuce.
That NYT article should be available to non-subscribers, so pour yourself a “Double Dews” (Dewars and Mountain Dew) and enjoy it.

You’ve probably read my old article at some time in the past 30 years, but for the record, here it is.
It begins as follows:
Roadhouse is a cinema classic and one of the most entertaining movies ever made. It is the White Trash Hamlet; the Redneck Romeo and Juliet; Macbeth with a Mullet; Timon of Athens, Georgia. If I have to go through the process to name my favorite movie, this certainly makes the short list. I would certainly rank it among my top 10 comedies. I doubt whether making a great comedy was the original intention, but as gamblers say, ‘The cards speak for themselves.’
As far as best bad movie, I’ll take Showgirls. Yes Road House is a bad movie, but I have zero interest in Swayze. I’m pretty sure they intended Showgirls to be a bad movie with their decision to make it camp. If they wanted it to be good they would have cast Charlize Theron. That movie could have been something with Theron and Gershon playing off each other and they had some talent in that cast.
‘Two ‘bad’ movies that get regular play in our household are ‘Tremors’ and ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Tremendously enjoyable schlock.
Road House has the oddest tonal shift of any action movie I’ve seen. You’re think you’re getting into a movie about some small town bar getting squeezed by some local rich thug, when suddenly the plot shifts to the antagonist becoming a psycho killer, and Patrick Swayze randomly goes Mortal Kombat ripping a guys throat out, and then goes Commando the rest of the movie. It feels like at some point in the movie some completely different director and writer took over and said ‘fuck it, lets make this an Arnold action movie, no one gives a shit anyway’.
