“Please note that food products containing poppy seeds are considered illegal in Korea.”
According to one college of medicine:
Practically speaking, you cannot eat enough poppy seeds to get you high. Furthermore, processing dramatically decreases opiate content – for example, by washing or cooking or baking the seeds. Poppy seeds don’t have nearly enough opiates to intoxicate you. But because drug tests are exquisitely sensitive, consuming certain poppy seed food products can lead to positive urine drug test results for opiates – specifically for morphine, codeine or both.
What are you in for, Duke?
Murder One.
How about you, Rocky?
Domestic terrorism and rape.
How about you, Kevin?
I sprinkled poppy seeds on my bagel.

It’s nice to know that a few poppy seeds could cause you to fail a drug test. How exactly are the courts going to get around that defense?
This has been known for decades. Flight instructors are told to avoid eating poppy seeds so they don’t fail the drug tests. My FI told me about it back in 1989. As for courts, no ideas.
The few times I took drug tests for jobs, the intake form asked about poppy seeds. I’m guessing they can filter for it in small doses if they know to.
I am periodically drug tested. I was really surprised when I tested positive for opiates last month, even though I hadn’t taken any. Fortunately, my doctor believed me. It turns out not just poppy seeds can cause false positive opiate tests. You can also have a false positive opiate test if you take very large doses of an opioid. I know; who would have thought that? In all seriousness, I have been taking Oxycodone for more than 11 years because of back pain. One of the requirements for such prescriptions is to take periodic drug tests to prove you are actually taking your prescription instead of selling them. I have been in significantly more pain recently and have been taking larger doses as a result. Apparently, I am now taking enough to cause false opiate results. (Opiates are natural opioids, while an opioid can be either natural or synthetic.
Some Canadians used to have a YouTube channel about living in Korea, and said they had a Ministry Against Having Fun.
People forget that America IS a free country and we’re it. Nobody else is.
They ministry over there does stuff like this, staunchly controls what is allowed in all media (not just obvious stuff like porn, but song lyrics, what exact content is shown on television like the nature of relationships, etc) and yes, VERY CLOSELY controls drugs. You get busted for smoking A SINGLE JOINT as an entertainer and you’re done. Career over like you’re a drug lord.
A band I like called Kardi that’s pretty popular over there just released a new song that has a video featuring a lesbian couple falling in love, ending with a passionate kiss. I was SHOCKED and I’m wondering if they are gonna get into trouble for it.
Being gay isn’t illegal there, but it’s STRONGLY frowned upon and kept deep deep in the closet.
All by that Ministry Against All Things Fun.
So you’re for freedom, you just want people to use their freedom in ways you approve?
Freedom as a value isn’t high up my list.
It’s more that people are labeling various things as freedom to the point that approach from someone like Mosley (granted, he used to be part of the left) seems better & concerns average people’s existence better.
Or in other cases, where obvious societal decline gets labeled as freedom or other values. Like austerity, for example.
It’s almost like I’m saying ways of living that aren’t like mine are valid.
I’m a weird radical like that.
Enjoy your imaginary utopia where everyone is just like you. I’ll be out here in the real world living at peace with people who might not be just like me, but just want prosperity and happiness.
Your last line would be more believable if it weren’t for your previous post. Not all forms of living are equal, and wishing, wanting, and endorsing things that are better for the people you’re surrounded by & in society you’re a part of, wouldn’t be just a sign of basic empathy, but of exactly what you’re saying – the desire for them to be happy & prosper.
The very point I’m making here is that people are suffering, and that many people – politicians especially, journos too, wealthy, etc – would rather characterize it as a sign of their ideology working, rather than address any of it. What a sad state of politics. And worst of all, this gets exported abroad.
“You failed your drug test.”
“It must have been those poppy seeds on my bagel.”
“You also tested positive for cocaine.”
“It was an everything bagel.”
