I’m sure you are all aware of the stats. Immigrants commit far fewer crimes than native-born Americans, and undocumented immigrants commit far fewer crimes than those who are here legally.
That makes sense, of course. Undocumented immigrants try to avoid any contact with police, because even an innocent traffic stop could ultimately result in their being deported.
But that’s not the point I’m making here. By promulgating the term “migrant crime,” Trump is defeating himself. First of all, it’s not really what he means. He means “immigrant crime.” Why is that distinction important? Because Donald Trump is not an immigrant, but he is a migrant. He migrated from the Northeast to Florida, like so many Americans. And Donald Trump has been convicted of 34 felony crimes. I doubt that any other migrant has been convicted of more, or indicted of more. Therefore, it is highly likely that Donald Trump is the single largest source of migrant crime in the country!
