This was about three years after her legendary nude performance in Lifeforce
————-
Here’s a small sample of the Lifeforce performance mentioned above. She was 19 at the time.
Here are HD videos from both the theatrical release and the “director’s cut.”
The “Director’s Cut” (often called the International Cut) of Lifeforce is approximately 15 minutes longer than the US theatrical release, featuring more in-depth scenes in the alien spacecraft, enhanced violence, extended erotic moments, and a significantly different musical score. It is generally regarded as a more cohesive film. The Director’s Cut supposedly “includes more explicit scenes involving the space girl (Mathilda May) and the infected Prime Minister.” Just from a quick glance through them, I didn’t see the difference.

Tobe Hooper said in the DVD commentary on Lifeforce that she showed up for the job shaved or landing stripped (I forget which), which was unacceptable to him, and they had to delay production while she grew it back in full. He made a point of it, a bit angrily: “All the pubic hair problems.” No merkins for him. But it sounds like a good problem to have. “Okay Matilda, off with the underwear and let’s see how that bush is growing in.”
I salute all those who will settle for nothing less than real full bush.
A classic scene from Matilda May in Lifeforce, it’s a shame she’s only somewhat known for that scene… She didn’t have a significant career after that, she didn’t become the star one might have thought she would (she probably did that scene so young because she thought she would grow in the industry afterward, but that wasn’t the case). The 70s until the early 90s were the best period in terms of nudity in films, especially in Hollywood. In the 2000s and 2010s, there’s a false nostalgia in this regard, especially concerning big stars from that period, who didn’t do as many explicit nude scenes as the stars of previous decades… If you look at Megan Fox, for example, she has never done explicit nudity to this day, although her scenes in the famous film Jennifer’s Body were highly praised at the time and many idolized that film, but the most we see there is Megan topless but with her breasts covered by her hair, camera angles at shoulder height, etc. Scarlett Johansson only appeared nude in *Under the Skin*, after a long time making films with only implied nudity and provocative scenes. She was idolized for scenes like that, and after that, she never appeared nude again to this day. Jennifer Lawrence only did nudity because of the leak of her iCloud photos. Gal Gadot, who to this day has never done explicit nudity either. And the guys at that time didn’t complain that these actresses didn’t show their breasts in films, their butts, and much less frontal nudity, lol; they knew how to take advantage. In this sense of nudity, actresses from a younger generation like Sidney Sweeney and Florence Pugh were even better than the previous generation of famous actresses I mentioned.
If I remember correctly, he told her to shave it off because he wanted to make her look less human or more like a mannequin. But then it looked downright pornographic. I wish there were some BTS test shoots or something so we could judge for ourselves.
I think that film with Yves Montand was the last film Jacques Demy made. What a way to go.
Mathilda also starred in one called The Tit & the Moon, in which her tit-ulat bazongas make several appearances
I’m working on her nudography. Look for it soon.
