Letizia Toni and others topless in Beautiful Rebel (2024)

The Italian biopic Beautiful Rebel (Original title: “Sei nell’anima”) was released in 2024 on Netflix, starring Letizia Toni. It documents the rise of Gianna Nannini as a singer, punctuated by rebellions against her family, record companies and producers, and social conventions in Italy

I suppose I should have known who Gianna Nannini is. I didn’t, although the film and Italian Wikipedia suggest that she is a bard and rock star on the level of Springsteen. Well, I guess I know about her now, because the film hooked me and I watched it with little fast-forwarding. It’s not a great film, and it repeats its points again and again, but the story of her non-conformist life is sufficiently interesting to overcome the pacing problems. And of course, it is filled with her music. (I did not become a fan, but that’s just a matter of musical taste. Your mileage may vary.)
