Back when most people could reasonably deduct that the rationale and claims from a President were incorrect. If WMD’s happened in the modern era it would have just resulted in MAGA propaganda doubling down and the cult believing every word.

For you younger guys who don’t really know Cheney:
1. Imagine if Trump was cunning enough to play the long game instead of acting on every foolish impulse that enters his head.
2. Then imagine if Trump was smart enough to make his lies and cover-ups plausible instead of laughably transparent.
3. Imagine if Trump was scary instead of ridiculous.
You are now imagining Dick Cheney.
Well Cheney didn’t create a cult and Bush/Cheney’s approval was down to 25% before it was all said and done. Trump has a solid cult of ~35%. Cheney was smart enough to get his war, but also couldn’t double think anyone out of calling the Bush era nothing but a disaster before it was all said and done. Trump is showing off marble bathrooms and living off of decadence and still has his cult eating a shit sandwich and enjoying it.
Thank heaven Trump is not as crafty as Cheney, but sooner or later a populist will appear who is as popular as Trump, but much smarter and more cunning. That will be what those who believe in the bible call the Antichrist, he who will rise to power and deceive the vast majority of human beings, subtly and seductively swaying men and women around the world.
But you don’t need the bible to understand the potential power of cult leaders. Imagine a man who could deceive 90% of the population, using charm and false love, not hate for minorities.
I think such a person is inevitable, but nobody can say how long it will be before his (or her) arrival. I think I will be gone. Frankly, I would rather not witness that.
It’s already working. Just look at the handful of commentators coming here: illegal immigrants and DEI are the cause of every problem. Nevermind you can pull out plain facts to look at crime rates and income inequity in the US to dispel any lies made by MAGA.
You would think we’re a half step away from an Ayn Rand dystopia, all promoted by wealthy billionaires vying to become the first trillionaire while they peddle lies about people making less than $20,000-$30,000 a year being freeloaders and causing all the world’s problems.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to look at any graph and see where the wealth generated by collective labor of 99% of society is going, and it doesn’t take much thinking to see which group has more merit and would cause the world to stop if they disappeared: the net value of the world’s 1000 richest or work effort of the same collective amount of value of the bottom of the working class. No one would miss Bezos, Musk, or the Saudi royal family if they were Thanos snapped out of existence tomorrow. The world would become an apocalypse if you took away the same net value of any section of the working class.
Yet we’re supposed to believe the immigrants and DEI polices are the freeloader problem when the richest continue to sell the lie that the worlds problems aren’t caused by their resource accumulation. Biblical prophecy or not, we’re fucked because of the clear path of so many to support greed and wrath above all else, and even warp their own supposed religion in accordance to do so.
