Brazilian horror film.

After 15 years Amanda returns home with her boyfriend to her family’s sprawling farm in a village in plains of Brazil. She finds her father in a coma, entangling her in a disturbing settlement between the village and the farm owner.

Lovely woman. Beautiful figure.

… but we’re still waiting for that first shipment of light bulbs to arrive in Brazil. I assume it is arriving through the mountains on the back of a llama.

Ethelle Gonzalez Lardued topless in Cet été (2023 short)

A short art film from Belgium. It just a few short minutes, it embodies every cliche you can imagine about French-language films.

  • A topless woman walking mindlessly through a field? Check!
  • Nothing at all happening while people light up a smoke and stare wordlessly through a window into the middle distance? Check!

One earns a failing grade in French film school if the senior film fails to include somebody smoking a butt while staring out of a window wordlessly for 15%-25% of the film.

In Swedish film school, the time requirement increases, and the unfocused staring can be as high as 100%, but (1) no smoking; (2) the window is optional – staring at a wall or an empty crib will suffice; and (3) it is not wordless – the actors are allowed to repeat a word over and over again to emphasize the emptiness of existence. Some possible word choices: “mother,” “winter,” “death” and “herring.”

Another difference is that the French school requires enough lighting to see the sadness, ennui or longing in the actor’s eyes. The Swedish school allows the scene to be in near darkness. Since Swedish performers are always acting sad and bored, there is no need for the clarification of facial expressions. It’s just assumed.

Olympic Gymnast Cathy Rigby naked in a legendary photo

This was recently mentioned in the Marilyn Monroe thread.

I have read that this image of Cathy Rigby was the first-ever nudity in SI. It appeared in the August 21, 1972 issue of SI, in the article, “Sugar and Spice – and Iron” by Anita Verschoth.

It was described in the film “JERRY COOKE THE PHOTOGRAPHER” by Neil Leifer, an SI staff photographer:

Jerry did an essay – a very, very smart idea, on the perfect body in sports – which would be the Olympic athlete. My favorite – only because I thought it was done so well, and is the kind of picture that could have really backfired on Sports Illustrated – but Jerry managed to photograph Cathy Rigby, who was our best Olympic Gymnast at the time – in just a beautiful picture. It could have been done by a lot of photographers. It would have been cheap, it would have been simply the kind of picture you would have seen in Playboy or Penthouse Magazine. But when Jerry did it, it was very appropriate for the magazine.
