… from public schools.
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed first-in-the-nation legislation on Saturday that will prevent public schools in California from serving items that contain certain food dyes.
In addition to the brands specifically mentioned in the article, Froot Loops and Cheetos, I assume the ban will also affect similar brands like Lucky Charms.

I would have thought San Francisco would protest.
What about books that extol the virtues of Fruit Loops? Can the school libraries buy them?
It’s because these products use a yellow dye that is a health hazard. These items are banned in the EU and many other countries.
But, but…American companies are entitled to kill their customers for profit.
They will probably just start making them with a different dye. Though those cereals will still suck.
Always after me Lucky Charms
One would think that a better solution would be to ban an item based on sugar content. Overall it’s way more of a factor in overall health.
In a better world yes. But in this one, you’d have Big Sugar siccing a busload of lawyers on you, saying this is the slippery slope to banning sugar packets for your coffee.
Perhaps our society could go back to telling people that being fat is unhealthy as well as unattractive. The media telling everyone every day that being fat is something to be proud of is just a bad idea. Never mind the fact that the media is making billions from ads for all these high-sugar foods that are being pushed on people. Sugar is cheap and addictive so the food industry absolutely loves it.
If you don’t count automobile commercials, probably 90% of all TV commercials are sugar products and the medicines people need to deal will all the related heath issues from all that sugar.
They are probably the two best industries to own outright.
Except the last 2/3 mos of a potus election. 😛
btw, “New Zealand and U. S. are the only two countries that allow pharmaceutical companies to directly advertise prescription drugs to consumers.”
So not surprising America is totally over-medicated, eh. Digressing …
Why? Is it derogatory towards Californians?
For me, certain artificial red dyes and tartrazine will cause heartburn. I don’t have it so bad, but my father and son have it much worse. I’ve researched and haven’t found much about it’s prevalence. Anyone else have this condition?
