Gaetz now retreats to his favorite place: 501 feet from a playground.
This leaves Trump down to his fourth choice.
His first choice hanged himself in prison.
His third choice withdrew
He’s down to his last two options:
Kidding aside, Trump has announced Pam Bondi, a reliable Trump lickspittle, as his new Attorney General pick. She has been a state AG, and (to my knowledge) has committed no major crimes of her own, so that’s already a major step upward.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Aileen Cannon or the guy who said that Democrats should be killed . I’m not a believer in this stupidity that Trump (or his people) play 4D chess, but it doesn’t take 4D chess playing ability to nominate somebody completely unacceptable, and then when withdrawing the nomination to have your opponents claim victory and then nominate somebody as unacceptable but not as high profile controversial.
Trump has chosen Pam Bondi, the former Florida state Attorney General who was a Trump sychophant.
At least he hasn’t tried on that ‘only the best people’ horseshit this time. It’s ass-lickers all the way down. Can’t wait to see what he’s got planned for MyPillow guy.
I disagree that they’re simply ass-lickers. To seemingly go on a tangent, but I’ll get back to this point.
Not that this idea is new, because it even has a long standing name: divide and conquer. But, if I were in the United States, the way I’d try to resist any incoming dictatorship is to get Trump’s senior officials to spend their time fighting amongst themselves. So, I disagree that they’re simply ass-lickers. While Trump appreciates those who have blind loyalty to him as far as it goes, I think he ultimately regards them with contempt. Trump seems to genuinely prefer people who have loyalty to him yes, but who also have an agenda of their own, and, while Pam Bondi is a Trump sychophant, she also has her own personal agenda of grifting.
An example of this is Steve Bannon who sold himself to Trump (and really to the world) as nothing more than an academic ‘ideas guy’ (irrespective of how horrible the ideas may be) but turned out to be at least as big a grifter as Pam Bondi.
What I think ties all this together is that Trump genuinely believes he’s a ‘stable genius’ who can harness these people into working for him while also following their own personal agendas. So, while I think it’s a mistake to underestimate Trump, he’s certainly no stable genius.
So, for an obvious example, one way to try to prevent the mass deportations would be to try to get pro business people in his administration (and business owners who benefit themselves) to tell Trump that mass deportations would be bad for business, and get them fighting with all those in the Administration who support mass deportations.
I read last hour somewhere that arguably he resigned only from his current House seat, and not the one he to which was re-elected this past election and for which has not yet started to serve. So according to that article, he could sit again in the House. I am not sure that article was correct, but it is a theory. Many (including some in his own party) wish he would just go away, but one way or another I don’t think that is going to happen under the upcoming Administration.
By “he” I mean Gaetz of course.
Gaetz’s resignation letter said that he (1) was resigning immediately and (2) did not intend to take the oath of office in January. He also communicated the same info to DeSantis, thus triggering a vacancy and the need for a special election.
I suppose his wording is ambiguous enough to allow him to re-claim his seat, since he’s no longer pursuing the AG job, but I’m just not sure about the House rules or the pertinent laws regarding what he said in those letters. Do they get take-backs? Sounds like it could get complicated.
In addition, as I noted, re-entering the House would bring back the report of the Ethics Committee. He could get ejected, Santos-style, right after being sworn in.
I suppose that the use of the language “not intend” may technically leave open the possibility of a change in intent, triggered by different circumstances. But I agree that Gaetz may want to stay well away from the House, in the event that taking a seat triggers the release of the report. I wonder though if the possibility of its release may follow him to any possible prominent role in the Administration.
So I guess we’re going to have Dwayne Elizondo Hector Macho Camacho becoming President feels more true nowadays.
Bingo…
Oh man, if only the Dems had won then WE could have been making these picks. We would be doing so much better. We need more Sam Brintons!!! More people in the minority that need to be lifted from the darkness and shown off to the world!!!
Maybe if we stop telling everyone why they are stupid for not agreeing with us and start having conversations we’ll have a chance next time, but it feels like were not changing a thing. That makes me sad. Good luck to our party!
Red & Blue is a tug-of-war between two delusions: 1) people are good, basically. That’s how come democracy solves every problem. Get Out The Vote & that basic goodness will triumph. And, 2) some people are good, some bad. And, most importantly, I’m the best judge of which is which. We just need to get rid of the baddies. I can point them out for you. There. Done deal.
That’s not a party issue. The Republicans dislike Gaetz just as much as the Dems. Conservatives dislike him just as much as liberals. He’s just a hilariously awful choice. If you picked a random name from Instagram, the odds are that they would be a better choice than Matt Gaetz for AG. It’s especially bad because the conservatives are always accusing everyone of being a pedo – then apparently decided that pedos weren’t that bad!
Reminder:
Dennis Hasteart was Speaker of the House from 98-06. He was two heart attacks from the Presidency.
Dennis Hasteart is also a pedophile. Gaetz didn’t even come close to this creep.
The US conservative sex offender list is really fucking long at this point.
Hastert is still alive. I wonder what his life is like.
Probably reading the news and planning a comeback.
The doctor may be a respected intellectual in academic circles, but if you think I’m letting that quack within a mile of my daughter, buddy, you got another thing coming your way. I mean there’s so much orange skin on his showpiece creation, that’s gotta be major malpractice right there.
