Director Sean Baker became the first individual to win four Oscars for the same picture: as producer of the best film, best director, best editor, and author of the best original screenplay.
Only two prior films, 1955’s Marty and 2019’s Parasite, had ever won the Palme D’Or at Cannes and the Best Picture Oscar.
It’s a triumph for nudity. There is plenty in Anora (see the link below)
Emilia Perez did lose the Oscar for the best foreign film to I’m Still Here, and justly so.
Adrian Brody held off the Chalamet rally to win his second Oscar.
Full Oscar results here. The awards were spread around pretty well: five for Anora, three for The Brutalist, one or two for the other winners.

5 Oscars. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing to Sean Baker and Mikey Madison for Best Actress. Made for $6 million. Grossed over $41 million worldwide. What a victory. Let’s hope this film does what it can to sex workers some respect, health insurance, housing, 401Ks, and all of that shit that Butters was trying to do for his ho’s in “South Park”. Finally, the ho’s win!
For me Anora is a big meh. There was more nudity in The Substance.
The Oscar Show itself was dull as dirt this year.
Roger that.
The only moment I really enjoyed was Kieran Culkin’s acceptance speech, which was personal, original and amusing. His other award speeches were different, but also interesting. I can’t believe I’m typing this, but I’m starting to like that guy.
I modestly liked the opening monologue and ‘performance’ by Conan. I am not usually a big fan of his, but overall he was a fairly good host. Other than that though, it was a low-key, unexciting affair. It did not help for me that Anora, a film I did not enjoy all that much, won so many awards. .
She was great in Anora. The movie was kind of “meh” though. It was trying to be a Coen brothers movie but didn’t quite land it.
Nothing about it screamed “best picture” or even “best director”. It looked like every other Bokeh-heavy, natural light, handheld indie film that’s come out over the last decade.
As the late, great Norm McDonald might have said, “It was a great night for whores!” But then, so are all showbiz awards shows.
This year’s Oscars were much weaker than last year’s, that’s a fact. And I still think the Brazilian films I’m Still Here and Dune 2 are the best films at this Oscars, a lot of people thought so.
I was satisfied that I’m Still Here beat Emilia Perez for Best International Film, given that it had no realistic shot at Best Picture.
As somebody wrote earlier, nothing about Anora signaled to me that it was a masterpiece. It would have been sixth on my list, and only seventh if A Real Pain had been nominated.
In the old days, with five nominees, I would not even have included Anora among my five choices, because I would have named A Real Pain to go with The Brutalist, Conclave, I’m Still Here and Dune 2. The exclusion of A Real Pain still baffles me. It got better reviews than any of the nominees, and no nod. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%, I think it was the best-reviewed major film of the year.
The RT scores for A Real Pain and the best-reviewed nominees:
A Real Pain 96%
I’m Still Here 95%
The Brutalist 93%
Conclave 93%
Anora 93%
Dune: Part 2 92%
My expanded list (allowing for a maximum of ten) includes the same six films, in a slightly different order. A Complete Unknown was not as popular with the critics, but I would have lifted it into my list, bumping Anora down to seventh, because I enjoyed it, dammit!. I don’t think there was any reason to nominate any but those seven films, but I concede that Nickle Boys might belong (I never watched it).
I would have no problem dumping The Substance, Wicked and Emilia Perez.
Only 2 minor awards for Wicked. I’m good.

I just hope this is an eye opener for some actresses that you can go nude and maybe win an oscar
Margaret Qualley sent a message that it’s okay to go nude *at* the Oscars, giving us the slip of a bean during her dance routine. It’s a frame by frame thing but clearly visible.
