From the set of Salma Hayek’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoot!
Salma Hayek is a favorite of mine (I chatted with her at some length during Sundance in 2003), so a video of her dancing in a bikini should be something to bring joy, and yet something about this made me sad. I guess your mileage may vary.

The ONLY thing that makes me sad about the video, is that she didn’t do more of this in the last 10-15 years. Such a beauty. I love Ed Norton as an actor, but he was a fool for dumping her.
Or did she dump him?
I can’t say I know what Scoopy’s “something about this” is. But I might suggest it’s a combination of her age, near 60, & that she feels at such an age that parading around in a swimsuit for Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit edition is what she wants for herself. To stay relevant, or something. She would’ve been around 35 when Scoopy chatted with her.
I just watched a Twilight Zone episode on this topic. Also just watched Bookish (2025), a UK detective (mini-) series. Stars Joely Richardson as the aging actress who can’t bring herself to shift to roles “more her age”. BC, can’t bear to give up the adulation.
Doesn’t look her age though….i expect SI didn’t ask her when she was 35. And she was revealed in “Desperado”
You’re pretty sharp, F. But you missed the boat there. What I mean & what I’m guessing would be relevant to what makes Scoopy feel sad about this, clearly does not have its roots in trying to figure out what’s SI’s motivation to put Salma in their mag. Surely it’s to do with what this seems to say about Salma.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but many people in Hayek’s line of work don’t look their age. Stars fresh off their maternity leave are already showing off their sculpted bodies a few short weeks later. This is just part of their “doing their job.” My question is, why should that be what their job is?
