New Hungarian series (English: “Empire”) about the career of István Kovács, “Kovi”, a famous porn producer of the 1990s and 2000s.

These are not my videos and I haven’t seen the series. I acquired the videos when somebody sent me this link. I assume the creator is Hungarian. I converted the videos to MP4 format so they could stream properly on GoFile.
I don’t understand any Hungarian, despite having lived there and having acquired a Hungarian girlfriend while I was there. We both spoke German at the time. My failure to acquire even basic conversational Hungarian remains one of my great disappointments. Another is having lost her when we were still in the honeymoon phase, when everything between us was perfect. My contract was up in Hungary, and she hadn’t finished her studies at the university there, so there was no way to make it work. It was the rare case where we both finished the relationship with a broken heart. We still write each other, in English now, as her English is now better than my German. In addition to learning English, she has learned Italian so well that she has become a professor of Italian in Hungary. We have both gone on to happy lives, but I guess we still wonder what might have been. I shouldn’t say “we,” since I can’t speak for her, but for me, she’s the one that got away.
As Kurt Vonnegut would say, “So it goes.”
Fortunately, you and I don’t need to know the language to know what is going on in this series. As you can easily deduce from the thumbnails above, everything is self-explanatory.

What did you do in Hungary?
In 1992-93, I opened up the first American-style convenience stores (“VIVA”) for OMV, the Austrian national oil company. I split my time between Pest and Nagykanizsa, where we opened the pilot VIVA offering.
I have written at some length about my adventures in Nagykanizsa
Interesting story, thanks. Having a huge ballroom as you room is quite the experience. Have you ever gone back to Hungary after that to see how things had changed?
No, I have not visited. Hungary was just emerging from the yoke of Russia when I worked there, basically just starting to develop a new, modern identity. I marched in basically right after the Russian army marched out, and some parts of the East seemed stuck in the past. When I drove out to Nyíregyháza, it was not uncommon to get stuck behind a horse-driven vehicle. I assume I would barely recognize the country today.
For reasons that are not clear to me, Anita does not talk about the changes in the country, and I don’t ask, so I have approximately zero idea what the country is like now, except for the little snippets we see on American news programs.
Getting back to the topic of nudity and Hungary in the 90s, I remembered a scene from a Hungarian movie. ((From 3:40) It’s from 1992 and shows women going to a nude photoshoot. The women tell their occupations to the staff doing the photos and they are nurses, teachers, etc. so they are regular people, but the transition from communism to capitalism brought economic hardships, so they are forced into nude modelling, porn as it happened in real life in the 90s.
I don’t know anything about the porn angle, but all the women in the restaurant of that hotel were prostitutes, either full-time or part-time, and the story must have been very similar in their profession. I don’t remember their back stories from pre-capitalist days (if I ever knew them), but I suppose they were similar to the porn actresses you mentioned. The transition period delivered them a double whammy. First, they ended up in prostitution. Second, they were forced to undercut their prices because of an influx of Russian prostitutes who found Hungary more appealing than Russia (unsurprisingly), meaning that the Hungarian women couldn’t even make a good living in that field. I suppose that the laws of supply and demand are particularly unyielding in their line of work.
It was a situation that worked out to my advantage, since I was paid in hard currency, and my client was paying for the hotels, giving me money to burn. There was one time in Pest when I drank with two other Americans in an outdoor cafe. Our original plan was probably to go clubbing after a pizza and a beer or two, but it was a beautiful summer night, the vibes were good, and we just decided to kick back, watch the passers-by, and close the place. We ordered another pizza later in the night, and I suppose we drank 7-8 beers apiece between us. For two pizzas, two dozen beers and generous tip, we paid less than twenty American dollars!
Since I wasn’t into prostitutes, drugs or strip clubs, there was basically no place to spend my money even if I had wanted to. I once took Anita to the only fancy restaurant I knew of, a glamorous castle-like place in Buda with tuxedoed waiters, strolling violinists, the whole works. I suppose they catered to Austrian tourists. To be honest, that’s way too fancy for me, but it was a romantic date with my love, so …
We ate every course, at the very top of the menu, for something like 4000 forint (about 40-50 bucks at that time). The same menu in Vienna would have cost maybe five times as much. And it was excellent food, better than in Vienna. It’s easy to understand why Austrian men loved to visit Budapest, where entertainment was cheaper, the women were prettier, people smiled more, the music was livelier, and the food was better. (Of course, being better than Austrian food and music was a low bar to clear.)
I checked out Pest, you must have walked these parts, looks nice.
Thanks.
Everything looks modern and commercial, and very crowded. Only about 30-35 years have passed since I worked there, but it looks like 100 years worth of changes.
Despite the crowds, it looks like a nice place to visit now, and it was then as well, but different.
So far looks a bit tame, mostly topless. In the first scene they avoided the full frontal shot like fire. I’d expect more full nude scenes in a series about porn.
Well there does appear to be a shot of a guy eating out a hairy pussy (vey much to my taste, literally and figuratively) which, if not real is at least a close simulation.

Here, Márkus Luca portrays Monique Covet.”
Relating to the first episode: “Zsanett Egerhazy never did a boy-girl scene, only lesbian or solo. I think Bernadett Szűcs portrays Deborah Wells.”
Köszönöm (Literally, the only word of Hungarian I know)
Thanks for the info and the correction.
Great stuff
