This fact seems incredible:
In just three generations, his family spanned the terms of every U.S. president. When his grandfather was born, George Washington had just become president.
His father was born in 1853 (34 years before my oldest grandparent).
Most of us knew or know our grandparents. When Harrison Tyler was born, his grandfather had been dead for 66 years!
The trick? President John Tyler, as in “Tippecanoe and Tyler, too,” was 63 when Lyon Tyler was born to his second wife. In turn, Lyon Tyler was 75 when Harrison Tyler was born to his second wife.

What I want to know is how old Harrison Ruffin Tyler was when his youngest child was born? Did he follow in the footsteps of Tony Randall and marry a 25-year-old when he was 75? Or did he wait until he was in his 90s? The last widow of a Civil War veteran died in 2020. She married a 93-year-old Civil War veteran in 1936 when she was 17. As I understand it, Joe Biden was NOT the best man at their wedding. I think he gave the bride away.
His children were born when he was 30 to 33. Pretty normal stuff.
His wife died in 2019. If he had been a true Tyler, he would have remarried at 91 or 92 to a young woman, and would have done his best to sire one last child.
Even crazier…Harrison’s great grandfather was born in 1734…42 years before the Declaration of Independence.
Tippecanoe and Tyler too!
Pretty much the only thing I remember about studying John Tyler in high school.
