New Polish mini-series. “Imperfect tense” or “Past imperfect.”

A multi-threaded family saga that intertwines the personal fates of the characters with the most important events in Poland’s recent history. The production combines elements of social drama, politics, and action, telling a story about love, ambition, and difficult choices made over several decades.

At the center of the story is the Brok family. Adam, the youngest of the characters, is a talented financier working for an American investment fund with business interests in Central Europe. His professional successes attract the attention of his father, Bogumił, an influential media magnate and former journalist, who sees in his son an opportunity to realize his own ambitious plans. Adam’s mother, Zuzanna, a former democratic opposition activist, remains true to her principles and strives to help her son find the right path in a world fraught with political and business interdependencies.

The series unfolds across several time frames. The creators travel back to the 1970s, showing the beginnings of Zuzanna’s opposition activities, the workers’ protests, the birth of Solidarity, and the events of martial law. At the same time, we follow Bogumił’s journey as he makes decisions that impact both his career and the lives of his loved ones. The characters’ fates reflect the changes taking place in Poland – from the communist era, through the political transformation, to the present day. The series shows how history influences family relationships, professional careers, and the moral choices of successive generations. Although Bogumił and Zuzanna’s relationship broke up many years earlier, their love remains an important part of the family’s lives. It is the memory of this extraordinary relationship that influences Adam’s decisions and shapes the bonds between the characters.
