A genre-bending surrealist noir set in the 1950’s, THE BLUE ROSE follows the one-night journey of two rookie detectives as they set out to solve a seemingly clear-cut homicide, only to find themselves in an alternative reality of their worst nightmares.
I can’t tell whether this is a tribute to David Lynch or a parody of his work. Genre reviewers seemed to like it, but mainstream viewers couldn’t get into it. It scores a bottom-feeding 3.7 at IMDb, and its 17% on the Popcorn Meter is the lowest I’ve even seen on that metric.
