A .gif of Valentina Belle in an episode of Medici
You may have noticed my convention of (almost) always writing .gif with the dot. I do this because of the pronunciation issue. Everyone who can speak the English language knows how to pronounce gif and jif. Gif as in Gifford and gift. Jif as in “back in a jiffy” and the name of a famous peanut butter.
But some people insist that these images should be pronounced “jif,” so I write it with a dot because the language has no rules for how to pronounce “g preceded by a dot,” and therefore “.g” is a new letter and you can say it any way you goddamn please.
