Uncle Scoopy's world-weary musings about naked celebrities, sports, humor and other important, manly things.
French drama, known in English as Playing With Fire. It was written and directed by the noted intellectual and pervert, Alain Robbe-Grillet, author of the notorious bore-fest, Last Year at Marienbad (1961). His works are cerebral and often dull, but they are also intentionally transgressive and sometimes sexually explicit. He…

There are no coincidences. The female nudity is the reason why many critics gave this show a low rating. We live in interesting times when even the worst crap gets high ratings just because it shows male nudity, but shows with female nudity are deliberately trashed in reviews. House of the Dragon season 2 got almost perfect ratings and was absolutely shit in quality. Why did this show get such high ratings? Because it only had male nudity.
Ok, same complaint as usual (less female nudity! male nudity exists!) so you’ve moved from blaming (let me check the list) actors, directors, casting directors, producers, studio owners, feminists, and intimacy coordinators to blaming reviewers.
Who’s next? Craft services?
First commenter is just one of those incel trolls who have nothing better to do than bitch – methinks he protests hanging dong a bit TOO much, maybe Rogan can flash you?
I have never been able to get into Dune – not the Frank Herbert book, not the Sting-in-a-Speedo version by David Lynch (who normally, I like,) not this. Though the tits make me want to give it a chance, maybe.
Have you considered the possibility that critics don’t like it because it fucking sucks?
I heard that the third Dune book that will be adapted into Villeneuve’s next film contains a lot of nudity by Anya Taylor Joy’s character, a lot. But, I don’t know if Dennis Villeneuve would have the courage to adapt this part of the book into his next film.
You said 3rd book, Dune Messiah is the 2nd book. (would be 3rd movie, if that’s your confusion)
Both of the original films were PG-13, so I’d be highly surprised if your wish comes true and the studio allows Villeneuve to serve up full on T&A on their $400 million franchise and shift it to an R rating
yeah, I find it difficult too. However, I’m just pointing out that Dune’s Messiah has references to explicit nudity by Alia Atreides (who will be played by Anya Taylor Joy) at various times in the story, nudity in a sexual context and nudity in a non-sexual context too… like me I explained these contexts before. but I have no idea how Villeneuve will adapt this for the cinema
Nude fight scene!
We can only hope.
And one thing is also worth highlighting. The fact that the film is not rated R does not mean that it cannot contain explicit nudity. Blade Runner 2049, which is by Dennis Villeneuve also coincidentally, has scenes of explicit nudity and sex too, and yet it had the same dune rating. So, it’s possible that there will be explicit nudity in the next Duna film and that wouldn’t necessarily raise the film’s rating to R
Blade Runner 2049 was rated R by the MPAA.
We don’t know what rating Dune:Messiah will get because it hasn’t finished filming yet.
Correcting the information, I spoke nonsense… Blade Runner 2049 is rated R in the USA yes, I got it wrong. Here in my country it was rated for the same age group as duna, but in the USA not… It was rated R and duna received a lower rating in the USA. However, this does not change the fact that a PG-13 film can also have explicit nudity, like Titanic for example and other films in this category also had explicit nudity. although this is rare nowadays
Villeneuve’s earlier movies like Enemy had some sex, & Ana de Armas basically started her rise as the naked hologram girl in BR 2049 but now that he’s Mr. Blockbuster, I dunno – what I know of the Dune books they’re a lot weirder than those movies, more like David Lynch’s stuff in terms of perversity (he of course did 80s Dune)
Exactly, Enemy and Blade Runner have good nude scenes and some sex, it’s not just Ana de Armas who gets naked in Blade Runner. But I don’t know if Warner would let him go that far in this next Dune film, despite him being a director who has a lot of autonomy and creative power.
I liked the first Dune a lot. The second one much less so, and then there was an exponential drop-off on the third. Never bothered with them after that.
The general public at IMDb also rates House of the Dragon higher than Dune: Prophecy. I’m guessing that has nothing to do with nudity one way or the other.
But contrary to what you were saying, the critics have been reasonably kind to Dune: Prophecy. It’s rated 75% at RT. The general consensus seems to be that it looks great but moves too slowly. (I haven’t started watching it, and may not.)
Have you read the Dune books or at least some of them? I really wanted to know if it’s true that character anya Taylor Joy’s his a several nude scenes in the Dune messiah book, someone who read it told me that. I wanted to be sure, because I’ve never read it. But if it’s true, I don’t know if Villeneuve will be so bold lol
It’s a book, so it doesn’t really have “nude scenes”. If I remember correctly – and it’s been quite a few years – the book does have some storylines that involve her having sex but it’s not described very explicitly.
The buddy of mine who read the book and from what I researched on the internet, Taylor Joy’s character is described as being completely naked in her training phase, while she is in rituals meditating as well and in the sex scenes. But again, I don’t know how Villeneuve will approach this in the film.
Ooh, I didn’t remember that. Maybe I should revisit the book…
You are generally not wrong. The mainstream narrative for a long time has been, men bad, women good. What’s good for men is bad, what’s bad for men is good. Everyone that works in the media mainly goes along with the narrative if they want to keep their job. Complaining about it does nothing as these companies do it for business reasons. While their subscriptions have been plummeting and stocks falling, they purposely devalued their product. If they are getting less money then they wanted to make sure the audience was getting less for it. They will only change when they see the need to change for the future and try to grow in that direction. This means giving up on cable and going full throttle with streaming. The best way to handle it is to not be their customer causing them to lose a little more revenue. Those are the only metrics they use to decide when is the right time to change course.
Yap yap yap
Stop talking shit. If that were the case, poor things wouldn’t have gone to the Oscar and Emma Stone wouldn’t have won the Oscar for best actress, and the media loved this film, most more than it deserved. Oppenheimer, who had Florence Pugh’s nude and sex scenes that are very random, even won the Oscar for best picture and all the awards and the media loved it too
And Del Toro’s fish-fucking movie won Best Picture as well, with lots of female nudity.
This year there were very good nude and sex scenes. And there will be more by the end of the year
But, but, but intimacy coordinators was suppose to end all female nudity! 😛
Carry on …
Yes, it seems like they are forgetting to “protect” actresses from nudity lol
There has been ultimately a significant decline in female nudity, that there are still female nude scenes doesn’t change that. The decline is true throughout the world except Russia. What we have seen this year so far would be about 2-3 months worth of scenes globally a decade ago.
I’m thinking that it might just be a cycle. If you look at the best nude scenes of 2008 – well, there weren’t any. It was probably the worst year of the last 50. But by 2014, things were really rolling again. 2022 hit another nadir, but the last two years have come back a bit.
I agree with Scoop. These things are cyclical, and looking at any year in isolation usually misses the big picture.
Also, I think Shiloh was joking, but intimacy consulatants were definitely not meant to end female nudity. They are meant to allow filmmakers to include female nudity while protecting themselves from lawsuits – because if the actress comes forth a few years later and says she was forced into nudity, then it’s not the director’s fault anymore, it’s the intimacy coordinator’s.
Just like that armorer on Rust, who job was supposedly to make the weapons safe, but whose real role was to take the fall when Alex Baldwin shot someone, ensuring that the studio/director/stars are in the clear.
This year and last year were very good in terms of nudity and sex in films
Maybe someday everyone will realize that all of this is controlled by business revenues, profits and growth, nothing else. Directors have no say, critics have no say, people writing in the media have no say. Customers that complain have no say.
The C suite people and board members at Disney, Comcast, Paramount and Warner decide when to make these kinds of changes. And other media companies around the world will be affected by what the US media does often doing the same thing. Female nudity is big money, they can’t ignore the impact even if they wanted to. They will make the changes that they feel are necessary to compete moving forward when they feel the time is right. Guessing anything else is a waste of time. These are multi-billion businesses. They don’t fuck around, all decisions are made on money.
For crying out loud The Substance with the nude scenes of the year was written & directed BY A WOMAN, the camera was practically up Demi & Margaret’s bungholes!

Meh. The best nude scene of all time was self directed by Betty White in 2020.
I’d say we are not in the ‘Golden Age’ of film nudity, which Scoop has theorized as being in the early 1980s, but there still has been a fair bit in recent years, and especially on paid TV services. I am not sure that this year has been particularly good though. I am looking forward to Scoop’s year-end review.
As for Dune, I read the first book many years ago, absolutely hated it, and have never read or watched anything Dune-related since. So I probably will not watch Dune Prophecy. Nice small breasts on Ms. Jones though.
Show seems no less boring than House of the Dragon so far, it’s basically just the sci-fi version. In fact, I can almost guarantee that sentiment was part of the pitch.
GOT probably just has a larger fan base than Dune thanks to the show.
Nice! Especially considering those sexless movies
