In Toronto for TIFF:
La Syd is realistic about her talent. She knows that Lady Macbeth is probably not in her future, but she understands precisely what she does have and how to sell it. That, in itself, is a great talent. There are plenty of women with prettier faces and bigger breasts, but to cite an old adage, she’s Chevy Chase and they’re not.
(She has risen as fast as Chevy, a sudden break-out from an ensemble cast in an ascension that could not have been predicted until it actually happened. Let’s hope her eventual fall is gentler than Chevy’s. In comparison, she does have the advantage of not being a total ass.)
She really seems to enjoy her life. Every time I see an article about her, she is having fun. So far, no scandals of any kind. Somehow she has managed to become the rare starlet who seems to be in charge of her own life.

I think she is a lot more talented than people give her credit for. Plus, she does not take herself seriously. I don’t understand the furor over her. So what if she is from an area that is MAGA country when she doesn’t subscribe to that shit? She has never said anything offensive. She doesn’t post dumb shit on social media. I like her. I think she is a cool person. I also think she could play Lady Macbeth.
No scandals? Lol…
That culture wars stuff has nothing to do with her. It’s just the usual manufactured outrage.
And many people talk as if there haven’t always been Republicans in Hollywood, even some of the greatest actors and directors in history were Republicans, although they were never the majority, there were always many.
I wonder if there was a time in the 50s when Republican writers were in the majority, given the blacklists, and the influence of Disney, Warner and Reagan (as head of SAG).
