This film had a terrific cast. The four principals are Sam Shepard, Diane Keaton, Diane Lane and Robert Patrick.
It went nowhere.
I think it was released in L.A. only. No major reviewers took a look at it. After all of these years, it has only 800 votes on IMDb.
Why did it fail? The plot summary offers a hint:
Reece McHenry, whose wife is in a coma, owns a clothing store. He hires widow Carol Fritzsimmons as a seamstress in the shop and they soon begin an affair. Carol must move to Canada to be with an ill sister and cannot persuade Reece to come with her.
Woo-hoo! A lost part of the Die Hard franchise!
I hear Jason Statham turned it down, because it was just too frenetic, even for him.
I haven’t seen it, but given the cast, and the fact that the author adapted it from his own stage play (“The Trading Post”), I assume it is a thoughtful film about ordinary people and their regrets.
Or to word it another way, box office poison.
