Although made in 1997 and in color, this film is an homage to the noir films of an earlier era. Filmmakers could not have shown these shenanigans in their original time period – bloody failed abortions, grisly and explicit murders, brother-sister incest, matricide – you name it. It’s a stylish movie that checks off all the genre boxes, but is not pleasant to watch because there is absolutely nobody to identify with. Most of the characters are sociopaths. The rest are psychopaths.
Why this mediocre film had been issued on Blu-Ray is a mystery to me, but it has, and I certainly have no objection to Gina Gershon slutting it up (as she does so very well), so here it is:
