On Shatmas Day, we discussed Free Enterprise, a Shatner performance in which he good-naturedly portrayed himself, complete with all the worst flaws his critics have ever alleged. The leading lady of that film was Audie England, who had been one of the top performers in the soft-core erotica of the mid-1990s.
In 1992, Audie had a small role in the first season of Red Shoe Diaries, playing a diner waitress who brought Duchovny his coffee. The show’s creator and creative force, Zalman King, must have seen something in her. Perhaps it was her totally natural look and line delivery, or perhaps her whispery, child-like voice. Perhaps it was the possibility that her shy, awkward demeanor might hide an unsuspected sexual fire. I don’t think we’ll ever know what special quality he spied, but he decided to give her a solid supporting role in the early part of season two. He obviously liked what he saw, because he then gave her three major leads in the subsequent three years of the series, the kind of roles where she was the only naked woman, and occupied the center of the story. He also gave her the lead in his feature film, Delta of Venus, based on the erotic diaries of Anais Nin.
Audie did some more erotic roles in 1996, then picked up some more mainstream roles, but cut back her workload until she abandoned the biz altogether. She moved away from acting in 2000 to focus on photography and family. She graduated from UCLA, later operating a photography business in Los Angeles, marrying producer Peter M. Lenkov, and raising four children. She never returned to professional showbiz.
Audie was born in 1967, although later birthdates have circulated.

NOTES:
I just watched the following shows where Audie was NOT naked
1. Red Shoe Diaries, s1e8 – (1992) she had a walk-on as a diner waitress, maybe two or three lines.
2. Red Shoe Diaries, s5e6 (1996) – IMDb says she had an uncredited cameo. I could not find her.
3. Shame, Shame, Shame (1999) – Audie plays a seductress who tried to talk another women, then a couple, into some swinging. She was as sexy as can be, but never got naked, even though the role seemed to demand it!
An official UK version of SNL, overseen by Lorne Michaels, debuted Saturday, with guest host Tina Fey. The show had some rough edges. The Weekend Update segment, normally a highlight of the American version, was a glaring weakness, but the Brits are better than anyone at making fun of the news, so I think they’ll probably figure out the proper rhythm for it.
The cold open was pretty good:
Here’s Tina’s monologue:
These YouTube creators did an outstanding job of researching the history of all the international versions:
By the way, their channel is terrific, one of the very best on YouTube. They have produced a summary show for each season of SNL from 1-25 and counting. (They have released an additional season every month or so, although there was a long gap between #24 and #25.) I discovered the channel a couple of years ago, and found it a wonderfully nostalgic experience to view the recaps year-by-year, not only for memories of the show, but also to see the changes in American pop culture over the years, a subject for which SNL is our time capsule.
Filmed in Iceland, this is a European sex comedy. A young man has a drunken one-night stand with a house guest who turns out to be bisexual – and his mother’s lover. Oops!
My headline says “Victoria Abril and others” because Victoria is the only famous woman pictured below, as well as the film’s biggest star. And she does, after all, appear fully nude from the front and rear. But the true star of the nudity is Ingibjorg Gunnarsdottir. I have no idea who she is, and I think 101 Reykjavic represents her entire film career, but her scene is quite entertaining. Don’t miss it.
Victoria Abril
Ingibjorg Gunnarsdottir
Thrudur Vilhjalmsdottir
If you follow the discussions here, you are aware that Victoria Abril is the all-time nudity champ. Of all the actresses who have been nominated for an acting honor by a national academy, Victoria has done the most nude scenes, more than Charlotte Rampling or Sharon Stone or Nicole Kidman or Kate Winslet or Monica Bellucci or any of the prolific French or Mexican stars. More than anyone.
One good example: Tie Me up! Tie Me Down!
This is an adventure story about mountain climbing.
Taylor and Harold are good friends and avid climbers. While climbing one day, they meet a man who it seems might be attempting to climb K2, the world’s second-highest peak. Always pushy, Taylor bugs the man for a spot on the team, claiming that he and Harold are good enough. They may be very good, but K2 is a very tough mountain.
When the film was made, Julia Nickson was credited as Julia Nickson-Soul because she was married to Starsky or Hutch or both. Their daughter, China Soul, is a musician.
The video streams the director’s commentary for some reason that I didn’t anticipate. There is nothing memorable about the original dialogue, but you can get all available audio tracks if you download it.
What the hell was John McCain doing in #17?
This was an outstanding show: beautiful writing, beautiful photography, beautiful nudity. It’s centered around a feminine perspective, and targets a female audience, so it’s not the sort of show I would normally seek out, but it does what it does so well that I loved it in spite of the long rhapsodies about food, in spite of the sentimental musings, in spite of the contrived crises, even in spite of myself. In that respect, I would liken it to Amelie, the great film from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, in the sense that if I just read the plot summary, I’d never watch it, but it’s just so good that it won me over, and I looked forward to it each week.
And it didn’t hurt that there were beautiful naked women everywhere.

As I suggested above, there were nude scenes in many previous episodes
