It’s difficult to pick a favorite from the list, but one of them hits close to home. One of my kids went to Centre College, an elite private school that has graduated many people who distinguished themselves in government and jurisprudence. Presumably neither those notables nor my son took the class called “The Art of Walking.”

Polish comedy series

An archaeology student discovers a document that grants the Royal Bridge, a small town in eastern Poland, the right to sovereignty, which leads to a lot of funny events.

For those who find her name too short and punchy, she also performs as Magdalena Dąbrowska-Ołdziejewska.

Man, they must have some extra-wide spaces on the signature line of checks in Poland.

I had an uncle named Jan Stec. (Pronounced Yahn Stets – two syllables.) He was deported from Poland for having too short a name.

(That’s the name of a real uncle. For the benefit of the those who need the “contains peanuts” label on peanut butter, the deportation story is not true. He left Poland for the same reason that most of our ancestors left their original countries – because they were either poor, tired and huddled people yearning to breathe free, or sniveling cowards afraid of being conscripted. As my dad often pointed out, our family boasted a proud history of survival through cowardice. When living in an area between Russia and Germany, running away to America was always a wise choice.)
