Leonardi crossed her arms in defiance as she lauded gasoline as “a great product” that had been “too cheap for too long.” “If they tell me it’s $4 a gallon, I walk in and pay them $8 a gallon. As my grandmother used to say, the higher the gas price, the closer to God.”

Since we’re in a burn money mood that Trump was supposed to solve with DOGE fixing the ‘deep state’, check out what Kegseth is doing with taxpayer money – not even counting the ongoing war in Iran. Worth another post at how insane this is:
“Some of the frivolous September purchases made under Secretary Pete Hegseth’s stewardship include a $98,329 Steinway & Sons grand piano for the Air Force chief of staff’s home, $5.3 million for Apple devices such as the new iPad, and an astronomical amount of shellfish, including $2 million for Alaskan king crab and $6.9 million worth of lobster tail. (Lobster tail is apparently a favorite of Hegseth’s Pentagon—the department spent more than $7.4 million total on the luxury item in March, May, June, and October.)
In other pricey food purchases, the government decided to drop $15.1 million for ribeye steak (again, just in September), $124,000 for ice cream machines, and $139,224 on 272 orders of doughnuts.
In the last five days of September alone, the department blew through $50.1 billion on just grants and contracts. For context, only nine other countries spend that much on the entirety of their defense budget per year. It’s also more than the total military budgets of Canada and Mexico combined.”
50 billion in five days during peacetime?
To quote the great Jeff Spicoli, “Righteous bucks”
I’m sure the DOGE kids who took a couple of computer science classes will be right on it to clean up the wasteful Deep State spending. You know, all those imaginary 140 year old citizens getting Social Security checks sent to their 50 year old closed bank accounts because they couldn’t understand how a database works.
Who cares though, there’s lobster tail to buy, gas prices to raise, bombs to drop, government slush fund contracts that I’m sure were all above board dealing out those five days ..
From Sen. Murphy of Connecticut summarizing his briefing today, of course he’ll have the partisan view on it, but it’s pretty much the view we’ve all been seeing:
“I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can’t defend this war in public.
I obviously can’t disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.
Here’s what I can share:
Maybe the lead is that the war goals DO NOT involve destroying Iran’s nuclear weapons program. This is, uh…surprising…since Trump says over and over this is a key goal.
But then of course we already know air strikes can’t wipe out their nuclear material.
Second, they confirmed “regime change” is also NOT on the list. So, they are going to spend hundreds of billions of your taxpayer dollars, get a whole bunch of Americans killed, and a hardline regime – probably a MORE anti-American hardline regime – will still be in charge.
Ok, so what ARE the goals? It seems, primarily, destroying lots of missiles and boats and drone factories.
But the question that stumped them: what happens when you stop bombing and they restart production?
They hinted at more bombing. Which is, of course, endless war.
And on the Strait of Hormuz, they had NO PLAN. I can’t go into more detail about how Iran gums up the Strait, but suffice it say, right now, they don’t know how to get it safely back open.
Which is unforgiveable, because this part of the disaster was 100% foreseeable.”
Okay, Mr. Smarty Pants, but are you talking about the Epstein Files now? I didn’t think so!
US is a total shitshow
Kamala Harris ran on the fact that she wasn’t Donald Trump and lost. Donald Trump won on the fact that he wasn’t Kamala Harris. Donald Trump should not be president, but your so-called ‘party of democracy’ gave you no choice in who it ran. Sorry for your loss, next time run a better candidate.
“Sorry for your loss”. So Doug K is our winner here. Congrats, Doug, nice job.
No, Doug K is the only one not whining. My border is secure, my town is clean, my 401k is through the roof, and my president speaks like a moron. Good and bad I guess, but the way it is nonetheless. I also don’t rely on government handouts. If i feel differently in the future, i’ll shut my mouth, show up on election day, and vote differently.
Nah you just rely on corporate handouts through the stock market, taking from the labor and consumer side, while psychopath executives drop pennies to shareholders while they keep the billions in compensation. It’s funny you think investments makes you any better.
I’m not a Democrat, but it’s better than being a capitalist cockroach.
You’re a clueless clown.
Can’t disagree here. The last election was absolutely a case of ‘fighting fire with fire’ and the Democrats foolishly chose to put respectful courtesy ahead of winning and nominated the wrong candidate. By the time they realized their mistake, it was too late – Trump had the momentum.
I guess the question is, do they run a better candidate or a bigger celebrity? The Idiocracy is nigh.
The fact that the people around Joe Biden shielded him was what really lost the election, as I see it. About two years in, they should have told old Joe that he had done his job and now it was time to go to a nice farm upstate. That would have given them some time to weed out candidates who weren’t tough enough to criticize Biden’s errors and also stand up to Trump.
The other big problem was that the Biden administration’s big electoral vulnerability was the fact that they had lost control of the border. So who did they nominate? The person who was supposed to be working on reducing immigration pressure on the Southern border. Then, she compounded the problem when asked if she would have changed anything from the Biden years, and said, “There is not a thing that comes to mind.”
That was game, set, match. She ceded that issue to Trump, and it was a huge issue with many voters.
We’re never going to get out of this hierarchical fall in line binary party selection the way the system works. The Citizen United ruling pretty much handed the political system to corporations and billionaires, and neither party wants ranked-choice voting and actively discourages independents.
With that being said, I’ll never be convinced that trickle-down economic philosophy is nothing but elaborate propaganda pulled by conservatives to convince the simple-minded that giving them everything without restrictions is the best form of government and economics possible.
At best, you may get a couple of thinktanks over the decades like Bell Labs or Xerox PARC that makes huge changes without oversight, or a diamond in the rough founder CEO like Herb Kelleher who put his employees first, but in the end the demise of society has been exactly what the GOP is pushing. Democrats have been terrible at messaging to attack this philosophy which should be a fairly easy strategy – if many of them weren’t profiting themselves from the system.
Messaging by Democratic leaders is nonexistent.Hence you have Mamdani.
I was shocked to hear that Biden had decided to run for reelection.
Exactly. Smokin’ Joe resigns in ’22, Kamala gets two years of on-the-job training. Either she runs as the incumbent or someone better knocks her block off. (As it is, she’ll never credibly run again, not for fucking dogcatcher. Because she didn’t just lose, she lost to Trump.)
Failing that, lie. Promise people peace and cheap eggs.
“Lost control of the border.” Straight-up Republican propaganda, amplified by Fox, News Nation and other RWNJ media.
The data
Yeah…nobody wants to come to a shit hole.
“Although many Americans believe that immigrants are more likely to commit crimes, undocumented immigrants have substantially lower crime rates than native-born citizens. Compared to undocumented immigrants, US-born citizens are over twice as likely to be arrested for violent crimes, 2.5 times more likely to be arrested for drug crimes, and over 4 times more likely to be arrested for property crimes. ” – Sourced from Wikipedia’s summary on crime in the US from NPR and House committee documentation.
Based on the data, it would actually be safer to randomly deport legal US citizens than illegal ones, because you’re more likely to capture a criminal. That’s why ICE has always been a gigantic waste of money at best.
You’d think that people could figure this out even without the data. Obviously, undocumented immigrants have to stay as far under the radar as possible, since any exposure of their status, even a speeding ticket, can result in a personal catastrophe.
Also, I don’t think undocumented immigrants really strain the economy. They receive minimal benefits and they pay (for example) sales taxes. On the other hand, since they get paid in cash, the government loses the payroll taxes that would be collected from legal employees.
That said, it is up to the people within a society to decide who gets to join. It’s not up to the intruders.
Interestingly, the government will crack down from time to time on the undocumented immigrants, but nobody ever seems to punish the employers who knowingly hire them illegally. Respectable companies get a SS# from employees, and pay them on the books, withholding the employee portion of payroll taxes and paying the employer portion. If all employers followed the rules, there would be no jobs for the undocumented. If there are no jobs for them, there’s not much incentive to come here.
“BBC’s US partner CBS News”…wonder how long that lasts with facts-optional Bari Weiss driving the bus.
Scoop, you mean like how Devin Nunes’ family owns a farm in Iowa that uses undocumented labor, yet nobody hassles them? Wonder why?
Well the people determining who get to stay or go based on their well lived life making judgment upon others are idiots. Everyone plays the birth lottery and the way we define where someone ends up via territories is based on chance and time. I suppose in 1900 those people would have been allowed that aren’t now. Or any of us could have been born in a war torn African area today and probably end up dead to violence, starvation, and disease.
All these rules and boundaries are made up by long since dead founders – who gets to ‘decide’ really depends no more on anything else besides humans instinct for survival. What gives me the right to tell someone where to go based on where I was born? Saying someone who is attempting to survive has no rights to migrate based on chance is a ridiculous premise. I’m assuming if we get nuked and/or Yellowstone blows, and you’re trying to save you or your families ass – you’re not going to care too much about the borders to a safer area out to Mexico or Canada, are you?
And moreso to the point of benefits, the federal tax collected would almost assuredly be given back or more out than comes in had the laborers filed, because of low income, earned income tax credits, child tax credits, and so on.
And it’s not even just that – it’s deterrence. There are 70,000 people in ICE camps and a $70 billion dollar package for ICE passed last summer. Just on a superficial average – thats $1 million for every person interned right now. Who in their right mind thinks that makes sense? Even if you count the ones heading out on flights, you’re likely looking at six figures in cost to deport people.
None of it makes sense, even for the most hateful people who claim its freeloading and cite costs – because it costs MORE to be cruel. Maybe if Buddhism is right in a just reality, the people citing their privilege over the land and nation lottery will be sent to the reincarnation wheel for a few rolls as a refugee to see what its like.
