This German film, originally titled “In Liebe, Eure Hilde,” is based on the true story of Hans and Hilde Coppi, anti-Nazi activists in 1940s Berlin. They were caught by the Gestapo and imprisoned when Hilde was eight months pregnant.
It’s not easy to come up with a new spin on the threadbare “Nazis are bad” theme, but this film found a niche that has remained relatively unexplored – the anti-Nazi resistance within Germany itself.
This film created the most emotional moment at the 2024 Berlinale. Hilde’s baby, Hans Jr., survived that ordeal. That very baby, now an elderly man for whom this is the story of his parents, was helped onto the stage at the premiere to thank everyone who helped to tell the story.
And here’s a nice surprise: it’s not just a good film (80% at Rotten Tomatoes, 7.1 at IMDb), but a good film with good nudity!
