This Brazilian film has been nominated for Oscar’s grand prize, the Best Picture award. It is rated 8.7 at IMDb, #121 of all time, and #1 among the 2024 nominees. It is rated 95% at Rotten Tomatoes, which is again the highest among this year’s finalists. It is not expected to win the Big One, but it is also nominated as the best international film, where it is a co-favorite (with Emilia Perez). If it loses the international Oscar, it could be considered one of the most unjust results in Oscar history. I’m Still Here is rated 95% on the Tomatometer and 99% on the Popcorn Meter, compared to a mediocre 76% tomato and a deplorable 32% popcorn for Emilia Perez.
A mother is forced to reinvent herself when her family’s life is shattered by an act of arbitrary violence during the tightening grip of a military dictatorship in Brazil, 1971.
Fernanda Torres is nominated for the Best Actress prize. Many serious critics have touted hers as the best performance, and she won the drama half of the Golden Globes, but she is likely to lose the Oscar to one of the Hollywood actresses. Based on the bookmakers, she is currently running third behind Demi Moore (who won the other half of the Golden Globes) and Mikey Madison. Interestingly, all three of the favorites did nude scenes, but there’s no erotica in this case. Fernanda will turn 60 this year, and this is a shower scene that is integral to plot and character.
Her nudography dates back more than 40 years! This list may not be complete because many older Brazilian films are hard to find:
1983 – Inocencia
1986 – Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar
1986 – Com Licenca
1989 – Kuarup
1993 – Capitalismo Selvagem
1995- Foreign Land
1998 – O Primeiro Dia
2006 – The House of Sand (full frontal)

A truly great film
I’m showing one more; Kuarup (1989). It’s kinda of arty and just her left breast but…
PR
It turned out better than expected – left breast PLUS pubic hair. I added caps to the main page. Here’s a video.
I saw this movie yesterday and all the raves are justified. It’s magnificent. I agree it won’t do well at the Oscars, if only because it’s so hard to see. Of all the Best Picture nominees, it’s the only one that hasn’t made it to streaming yet, it’s still theaters-only.
