1. Two things:

   Against: Nobody noticed this till now?
   For: Fisher said anyone looking down from above would see “everything” so that suggests no pasties or modesty garments.

      1. I’d say no. Fisher made it clear she wasn’t happy with it. She’d signed on to play this teenage badass princess freedom fighter that dressed like a nun. (They even taped her boobs down in New Hope to make her look younger.) Suddenly in Jedi she’s aged up and in a metal bikini.

         I think the creative team behind Jedi knew this and took care of her. That’s another “against” as I’d think they’d have noticed this and done another take, unless there was a reason they had to use this one.

         1. I have seen her say the exact opposite on many occasions. She said there was a ridiculous rumor that she wouldn’t play Carrie even though she auditioned for it because of the nudity. She said that was absurd and she would have loved to do a nude scene at that young age. She also wore a see thru shirt in Shampoo at 16 when she asked Beatty if he wanted to fuck. She seemed pretty wild and she has said that in many interviews. At 17, she had an affair with Harrison Ford during the making of Star Wars.

         2. They taped her down because George Lucas said there are no bras in Star Wars and her boobs were just flying all over the place. It has nothing to do with making her look younger.

2. Just had a look and it’s in the 1080p version I have. Though in that version it looks more like some sort of artifact instead of a nipple.

   1. I’m wondering how much AI upscaling was needed to get 4K out of the original film stock. There’s a chance it was a nipple, there’s a chance it was an artifact that AI decided was a nipple a proceeded to draw one on. I don’t think we’ll ever be able to know.

      1. The 4k release of return of the Jedi came out in 2020 which I think is before any AI upscaling.

            It definitely wasn’t available for household use yet, but whether it was available for use by Disney is a question that I don’t know the answer to.

5. George Lucas and Brian de Palma were film-school friends, and they held a joint audition when they were casting “Star Wars” and “Carrie.” Some actors who auditioned for one movie ended up in the other (William Katt might’ve been Luke Skywalker; Amy Irving might’ve been Leia).

   There was a story that Carrie Fisher declined the lead role in “Carrie” because of the nudity, but she dispelled that rumor herself. “I love being nude!” she said.

   Pity no filmmaker ever found a good nude role for her!

   1. I seriously wonder if that is just something she said after the fact to give herself a certain image. Would she really have done that opening scene in Carrie if offered? I’m sure she would have considered her famous mother’s possible reaction to that and have thought twice, even if she didn’t have any reservations herself.
