Unsurprisingly from Cronenberg, The Shrouds (2024 at Cannes and TIFF, 2025 theatrical) is described as “body horror drama.”The Hollywood Reporter called it a “fetid stew of sex, death and tech.”
Karsh, 50, is a prominent businessman. Inconsolable since the death of his wife, he invents GraveTech, revolutionary and controversial technology that enables the living to monitor their dear departed’s corpses as they decay in their shrouds. One night, multiple graves, including that of Karsh’s wife, are desecrated. Karsh sets out to track down the perpetrators.
From Wikipedia:
In an interview, Cronenberg described the film as very “personal” and “autobiographical.” It is directly inspired by his own grief at the loss of his wife, Carolyn, who died in 2017.
I suppose that “personal” bit is accurate. Who else but David Cronenberg would like to follow the progress as his wife’s body decomposes?

Also naked in the film (topless): Sandrine Holt

My wife was cremated, but if she hadn’t been?
Sometimes it’s so impossible to imagine life without someone that you might consider some absurd and insane things to make that feeling just slightly more tolerable.
Wow great scene despite the weird usual cronenberg things.
It’s a shame his films can’t find a decent distributor. Reviews never help either. Critics have some animosity towards Cronenberg, maybe because there is usually a lot of female nudity in his films… I hope he never changes. I hope he doesn’t start making movies that only please critics, but not devoted fans of his work.
You figure, Crash had controversy, critical acclaim, and some pretty big stars. That got a wide theatrical. Not sure if it made money.
Since then? His last one, that surgery one, got a limited/art house release. Likely didn’t make a nickel.
Nobody is gonna step up to fight for screen space when they know it’ll lose every dime they spend. Niche chains like Alamo can still rent it theater by theater as long as theatrical isn’t tied up in a home/digital release. But trying to get it in front of mom and pop in peoria is a losing bet.
It’s because the movie business is a business. People estimate the size of the market for his films and can’t make the numbers work.
Anora was a great movie & has only made $16 million, if the public wants to see Wicked, fuck ’em
Don’t blame the public. Almost no one heard of Anora until now and it opened last year in 6 theaters and was upped to 34 the next week. After a few weeks it did hit 1500 theaters for one week and then dropped down to 230 pretty quickly. Wicked on the other hand opened in about 4000 theaters and they spent well over a hundred million to make sure everybody knew it was out. Hollywood controls which movies will have more success and which won’t. It’s a rigged system.
Maybe because most of his films suck!
Go watch The Mandalorian then, bully boy
It’s out next month, Neon is distributing
Great! Could you post the images with improved lighting?
Can you give link where to download or strem full movie?
Any reason to believe this isn’t all CGI?
Sandrine Holt is perfect. Thank God she didn’t feel the need to get implants like Kruger
She is so hot, wish she’d done more nudity in her career – find Rapa Nui where she’s topless on Easter Island for a whole 2 hours
Cronenberg puts my ass in the seat!!! I love a lot of his films though “Cosmopolis” is my least favorite as that was BORING as fuck!
Still great ass shot by some actress in Cosmopolis
Patricia McKenzie. She got her boobs out, too.
Whoops also bush. Missed that bit.
For reference:
Since the movie business has changed so much from the DVD era with streaming, there are no budgets available for mid-tier budget films.
Matt Damon explained this on Hot Ones of all places a few years ago. This sums up exactly why it’s either a summer tent pole film or an indie with no budget, with no in between anymore, unlike 20 years ago
