It gets to be fun when the tough conferences start their conference schedules. Five of the top eleven teams lost, and #8 Miami needed a miraculous fourth quarter comeback to eke out a 39-38 win.
Miami was down 35-10 at their worst point. They scored TDs on their last four possessions, and pulled off the final one with 26 seconds on the clock. Even with all that, they would have lost if an earlier two-point conversion had failed, or if Cal could have scored a TD instead of a FG in any of their own late possessions. Miami needed every single thing to go in their favor – and it did!
#1 Alabama lost
#4 Tennessee lost
#9 Missouri got slaughtered
#10 Michigan lost
#11 USC lost
Kent State had their best week – an open date! Well-rested, they are only 7-point underdogs next week! This could be their time.

At least one more big-time team will fall from the undefeated ranks next week. New #2 Ohio State will take on #3 Oregon. In the betting line, Ohio State is favored by 4 even though they are on the road. (The computer ratings don’t recognize Oregon as one of the top five teams.)
