The rap on the Timothy Dalton Bond films was that his performance could be tedious. I mean he’s handsome, manly, and a solid actor, and the series was trying to ditch the jokey, flippant Roger Moore interpretation to create a driven, no-nonsense Bond, so – mission accomplished. But his James Bond was just boring. He really tries to play completely against type here as a sadistic pervert, but truth to tell, he’s even kind of a boring pervert. That does work, because his blasé manner makes him even more menacing.
