I saw her toward the end. When I was going to UConn, the nearest town of any size was Willimantic, CT. You’d see her sometimes, this shy older lady cycling in to buy bread at the Co-op. People would point her out and say that’s THE Wendy O. Williams – do not approach, she’s very inside her head, does not want at all to be famous, talk about the old days, or strike up an acquaintance. It’s hard to get a read on someone without talking to them. I will go as far as ‘seemed nice’, I was sorry and surprised to hear she had ended things.

Many who knew her said that she was nearly the opposite of her performance character. People described her as shy, sensitive, and soft-spoken. As a student, she was dedicated to playing the clarinet. Like the character in American Pie, she was the band camp nerd with a hidden wild streak.
I wonder if her depression was caused by a conflict between what she wanted to be and what she actually became.
Her parents didn’t help…
