I both laughed at this and thoroughly enjoyed ‘certain parts’ of it.
Sorry, but I don’t get it. This seems to be some kind of women’s empowerment anthem and yet displays all of the tropes of blatant sexual objectification. I thought the modern feminist movement was against that sort of thing? Or, does it not apply if the director is also a woman?
They don’t actually care about any of these things, they just run a business. If the media wants to be against some of this then they say it objectifies. If they want to do it then they say it is empowerment. Much like a lawyer chooses to say whatever will back up the side they are currently on. They are often against it because they don’t like competitors using it and they prefer there not be too much of it so they can charge extra for it on premium channels. It is true that they often stick a woman behind it as director because they feel it looks better that way. In any case, what they say is bullshit rationalization.
I did get a kick out of it because they went back to the classic of having a bunch of sexy women dress in very sexy versions of men’s work outfits. That’s always a popular choice. This isn’t particularly unusual in music videos as that is one area where women have been wearing practically nothing and acting very sexual for years. They seem to use this area to lead the way.
Let us not forget that prior to metoo, overtly objectifying oneself WAS feminism and female empowerment. ie, Lena Dunham, Frankie Shaw (SMILF), etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
So I’m guessing in actuality some of these entertainers are about as confused as you are.
Your mistake was watching with the sound on. It’s clearly marked as a Katy Perry video.
